  • Honda Roof Trim........

I have a 1997 Honda Accord and there are trim strips that appear to be metal, between the roof panel and side panels.
They are black and I assume are covering a weld seam.

They look like they are oxidizing and I don't know what product to use to clean and protect them.

I don't have a camera so I can't post pictures and didn't really know how to do a search on this so I'm here looking for help.

    Any thoughts?

    Here's an article from WikiHow:

    Steps

    1. Wet the surface to be cleaned.
    2. Get an old toothbrush and some white, paste-type toothpaste.
    3. Put the toothpaste on the brush, just like you'd do to get ready to brush your teeth.
    4. Gently scrub the surface using back-and-forth and circular motions.
    5. Rinse the cleaned surface before the toothpaste dries.

    Tips

    • You may want to wash the car after you've done this to remove any remaining toothpaste.
    • You may also want to try peanut butter, not the chunky one, which will remove the white wax residue instantly; peanut butter oil also works and it is much easier to apply. Rinse the cleaned section afterward.

I've heard that rubbing alcohol works too, but I've never used it myself. After you use either of these steps you can use Gold Class Trim Detailer or Mother's Back to Black. Note that these steps are to remove wax residue. If you've got discoloration that goes beyond that, the trim pieces are probably irreparable. Hope this helps!

So are they metal looking or black. If they look like chrome than Wash your car, then use a cleaner polish on them. (SwirlX, ScratchX,etc) If they are black than just use GC Trim Detailer.

        P.S:

I wouldn't take info from places like "wikihow" They most likely don't have the "Car Crazy Techniques" like we use here.

Hmmmm. After taking a much closer look......... at 11:30 pm with a flashlight so my neighbors will know I am certifiable........ they are black plastic strips that are spotted.

Guess I will try some Trim Detailer tomorrow.

          Thanks again.

            Re: Honda Roof Trim........

Just out of curiousity, I tried the toothpaste method on the black plastic strips on the roof of my mom and dad's 2000 Honda Accord, since there was some old wax residue on there that I hadn't been able to remove. Then I followed up with Mother's Back to Black, since I don't have Gold Class Trim Detailer. Made it look like new! So you see, sometimes it's the simplest of things that get the job done.

Let me know how it turns out. My 94 Accord has the same strips.

Thanks folks. I will head over to Wally Mart to find some trim cleaner and toothpaste.
