  • NXT durability question

    Hello all!

Yesterday, I waxed my 2007 Acura TSX (Carbon Gray Pearl) with Meguiars NXT 2.0 Paste wax. After applying and removing the wax, I applied some Optimum car wax spray which is a caranuba/polymer wax.

Anyway, I was just wondering how long the NXT 2.0 wax will protect my car for? (Chicago area).

Also, I purchased some Swirl X since my car has A LOT of swirls in it. The NXT 2.0 did a good job of covering them up for the time being, but I'm assuming that they will be back after a couple of car washes. So, I was just wondering if I would get better results with the Swirl X applying it with my PC vs. by hand? Also, I have the W8006, and W9006 pads. Would I want to apply the SWIRL X with the W8006 pad, and then follow up with the NXT 2.0 (liquid) with a W9006 pad?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jeff

Moved into Detailing 101 and added to the title since you had a few detailing related questions. This sub forum should help you get your answers in a more timely fashion.

You Should Get Better Results With The PC.
Even Though it may not be needed I would clay before to make sure the wax is off.
Then Maybe follow up with is Isproryl Alcohol to remove silicone fillers.

Unless you are planning on painting the car immediately, there is no reason to worry about silicone.

Claying will not remove all the protectant off the paint. To fully remove the protectant, follow it up with a paint cleaner (SwirlX, ScratchX, Ultimate Compound, etc). Also, all waxes "fill" to some degree.

Yes, SwirlX should be used with a W8006 polishing pad and NXT 2.0 should be applied with a finishing pad.

Depends on the Weather and How Much You Wash It.
            About a couple of Months.
            Remember the Swipe Test.
Apply a Thin Coat of Wax.
Let it Try and take your finger and swipe.
If there are streaks it needs more time, if none are present you can wipe it off.

My experience is that this is an impossible question to answer (or even to guesstimate). Here is why... the conditions of your particular vehicle will vary so greatly from anyone elses, you'll never be able to pin down durability.

On my garage parked, rarely driven IS, I can get 4 months on NXT 2.0 (or more). On my wife's driveway parked, exposed to the conditions all the time, I get about 10 weeks tops.

The best thing I can tell you is that as of today I have never used anything that has lasted longer (not saying NXT 2.0 outlasted everything) just that I've never used anything which outlasted NXT. I've tried at least 15 different LSPs and find that durability (especially amongst synthetic sealants is pretty similar).

Just wax your car once a month.

To tell when your wax is starting to go away, when it rains if the paint/water isn't beading and sheeting as it once was, then it's time to do it again

3 Fitty nailed it on the head. It is too hard to give anyone a tried and true answer. Even down here in Florida, with 2 garaged kept vehicles. I never go more then 8-10 weeks without waxing. That is without dealing with your winters. Salt exposure etc. To many variables to give a definitive answer.
