  • IROCz louvers

I have a thirdgen camaro with black plastic louvres. my question is what product can I use best for the louvers and front grille to keep it black.
because that 20 year old black plastic is getting a bit more greyisch every day.

    Re: IROCz louvers

We just sold our thirdgen Camaro and used to use Exterior Trim Coating on the front grille - worked beautifully too. We didn't have the louvers over that huge rear window, but it should be perfect for those as well. When applying this product to the louvers you should lift them up and put some towels between the louvers and glass to minimize overspray and cleanup.

Another product that works good on flat black paint is Gold Class Trim Detailer.

Note this product is not intended for or formulated for flat black paint so test first and use at your own discretion. The problem at this time is there's nothing on the market for flat black paint, (or any color of flat paint), nor vinyl graphics and decals.

The goal is to find a product that will bring out and maintain the richness of color of the surface it's being applied to without turning white or opaque.

Here's a thread about it that includes how to apply and remove this product.

      How To Maintain Vinyl Graphics/Stickers/Stripes/Decals

Back when I detailed cars full time Meguiar's had a similar product on the market called M42 Rubber Treatment that also worked really well for flat black paint either on car hoods or rear window louvers.

Check. Re-read the post and say you mentioned they were plastic.

If it's plastic then either of the products listed in this thread are actually for plastic trim and will work great on your louvers.

GC Trim Detailer works great on our Yukon which is GM.....

I tried All Season Dressing, didn't hold up or look as well on the plastics. M40 works good but isn't as durable. I do use M40 and dielectric grease on the rubber seals, keeps them in good shape. I apply the grease once a year or so and maintain in between with M40.

Wow, beautiful car, I love the looks of that generation of Camaro and Firebirds! You don't see too many on the road anymore, I think they will be classics one day, especially the rare ones with the L98 350 motor

                can't afford those over here.
here they tax us to dead. ( even when you die you pay taxes )
on cars they tax on hp or engine size ( whatever is highest )

                for a 3L to 3.5L or 200hp to 240hp you pay 800 euros taxes.
for 140 hp you pay 400 euros taxes

                a v6 camaro like mine has a 3.1 v6 that makes 140 hp.
                this means I pay 800 euro's takses.
a 5.7 iroc makes 240 hp, but since its a 5.7L engine, you pay 2100 euros taxes yearly.

if you know that a thirdgen aint even worth 2500$ you pay A lot of taxes for an old car.
                so nobody wants them anymore

Glad to hear it worked but, ah, which product did you use exactly? A few different ones were mentioned in this thread and I'm sure others would like to know what you ultimately chose.

I used the gold class trim detailer.
its not perfect yet. but I think when I finally get my car back ( took te louvers of the hood when I gave it to them )
and I detail them again by then ( that would be in 2 weeks from now ) they will look even better.
