  • M80 vs. M205

I've used #80 quite a bit and I'm very happy with my results.

M205 is out now and I'm wondering if that is more or less a new version of #80?

What are the differences? I see that M80 is a 4/10 for abrasiveness and M205 is a 4/12. Some quick math tells me that M205 is a little "lighter".

Any comments on the comparison of the two?

I did search and couldn't find anything comparing the two. Hopefully I'm not repeating another thread.
It's only weird because it's not normal

M205 is a different TYPE of product in that it uses the new SMAT abrasives, where as M80 uses traditional Meguiar's DAT abrasives. Or, to be clear, M205 uses Super Micro Abrasive Technology, meaning the abrasive particles are all incredibly small and sharp, but do not break down in the traditional sense.

M80 uses Diminishing abrasives which become duller and offer less cut as they are worked.

The difference to the user is that M205 has less possibility for user error because working time isn't as important to the final results.

As for the cut, a 4 is a 4, the only reason the M205 is on a 12 scale is because the new products Meguiar's released required a taller scale to properly signify the cut of products like M105 and M95.

      Re: M80 vs. M205

We actually have a thread just for this type of question as we know so many people always want to understand how different products compare in aggressiveness levels....

It's a Sticky in this forum group,

2009 New Products and Improved Products

We even gave it a nifty title...

Aggressiveness Order for New Consumer Products - This will surprise you!

Since we introduced these 3 new swirl and scratch removers in our Consumer Line and our new M205 Ultra Finishing Polish in our Professional line, many people have asked how aggressive these new products are as compared to some of our existing products that our forum members are already familiar with to help them understand the cleaning and/or abrading ability of these new products I've listed them in order of most aggressive to least aggressive reading from left to right.

(Apologies ahead of time if you have to horizontal scroll)

Most aggressive to least aggressive -->

That would be from most to least aggressive,
      • M105 Ultra Cut Compound
      • Ultimate Compound
      • ScratchX 2.0
      • SwirlX
      • M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
      • M205 Ultra Finishing Polish - M80 Speed Glaze (Different types of abrasives but close in cut ability)
      • ScratchX (Current Version being discontinued)

          Re: M80 vs. M205

Just to note, in the picture of the product above, the bottle of M80 in the lower picture is positioned under the M205 as a way of showing where it fits into the line of products in the upper pictures.

Somewhere someone's brought up the questions about how M80 and M205 compares, I think it can be found in one of the pages of this thread,
