  • DA Backing plate question

I received my backing plate yesterday and was reading the package it comes in and it says

"Patented self centering system quarantees pad balance every time"

How exactly does this work and I don't remember reading anywhere about he pad needing to be exactly centered?

    Thanks Tim

I figured it probably made a bit more difference with the rotary than with the PC

      Hi Bri9801,

Your buffing pads always need to centered as best as possible to reduce vibration and to improve your control over the polishing process.

The way you center a Meguiar’s foam pad onto a Meguiar’s backing plate is to eye it up for the DA backing plate. The outside circumference of the backing plate should just fit inside the Velcro material on the back of the foam pad.

For the rotary buffer, if you look at the backing plate on either the 6” W-64, or the 8” W-65 you will notice a nubbin in the center of the backing plate about ¾ quarters of an inch in diameter. Now look at the back of a Meguiar’s foam pad and you will see a corresponding missing section in the Velcro in the shape of a circle. The idea is to fold the foam pad like a taco so that you can align and mate the foam pad to the backing plate. It’s easier to show than it is to describe.

Thanks Mike......Just lined it up appears somewhere around 1/8th of an inch around it about as close to center as I'll get.

Now if it gets warm again I can try it all out
