  • How do you make side mirrors look like new?

The mirrors on my '95 Cutlass Ciera have old bug guts embedded in them and they are scratched. How do I go about making them look like new? They should look like this when new:

Also, I tried getting some photos of my mirrors on here but I couldn't figure out how. Does anybody know how? I have an iMac (Mac OS X version 10.4.11) that uses iPhoto to import pictures from a digital camera. If you could help me with either question I would appreciate it . Thanks!

    Shane

I know nothing about computers, so can't help you upload Sorry.

As far as the mirrors go, I have never used anything aside from soap and water to clean mirrors. Get a scrub pad from ADS. They are yellow, and about 6"x4". Not sure what they are called. If your mirrors are too bad, it may be time for a repaint on them. Any local auto parts store should carry the flat black paint to respray them. Just be sure to prep them well first.

I used Hyper Dressing to make them look better or a trim detailer would work too.
I am not mistaken these are the Yellow Pads are either like a Scotch Brite Green Pad, or a sponge with a scrub part.
I normally clean them with car wash soap.
I gave you a personal message.

I think it depends what surface it is. Is it textured a little and plastic like? Or more paint like? Then go from there. I use the Gold Class Trim detailer on the black trim on my windshield wipers and it works really well. I have also used it on some pick-up truck mirrors and it works great there too.

It all depends on the surface though.

If they are the shiney plastic like on my '01 Pontiac then I would treat it like paint. The plastic scratches very easy. I have used a polish and then ColorX. They look like new now.

My mirrors are painted hard plastic, they're not like black Honda mirrors or something like that that you have to apply some sort of dressing to in order to keep it looking sharp. If this helps you realize what they're like, I can (and have) apply just a regular wax to the mirrors and let it go at that.

The mirrors on my truck have textured trim and the mirrors on my mom's Town and Country are painted plastic, both get Hyper Dressing 1:1, and they look wet and like new. In the Town and Country's mirrors you can see yourself.
