  • Where does swirl X come in?

Hello, I had a questions about the 'cleaning' stage. My car is black and due to some quick washes I have acquired swirls. I also had a clay pidgeon broken on my car . So I need to get rid of that and the swirls. My question is after I wash thoroughly, do i clay bar first, or do i swirlx first, or do i ultimate compound. I am just a little confused as the steps in that process. Keep in mind I work by hand.

    Thank you

    Clay first, the use SwirlX

You remove the contaminants off the top of the surface, (getting them out of the way), and then go after the defects below the surface.

Thanks Mike, so clay first, then swirlX, the polish, then wax correct? Im pretty sure thats how it goes! Thanks for the advice!

SwirlX is less aggressive than Ultimate Compound, so you would choose one or the other. If they are light swirls, then SwirlX is your answer. If you have moderate to severe problems, then Ultimate Compound will probably be your best choice

There is no real need to do both of them, once you're done with them, jump directly to your favorite top coat of wax. NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 / Gold Class Wax etc...

Thank you..'other mike' haha, i figured thats what it was. Will the clay bar be able to remove the residue left by the clay pidgeon mishap? I am getting prepared to do this this even/tonight because it has become an eyesore to me..the whole car has, and I am VERY meticulous. But this is my first black vehicle and sometimes i get awesome results and sometimes its like I never touched the car.

Clay is for removing above surface bonded contaminants, things sitting on top of the surface.

So if the clay pigeon left some kind of residue that has somehow bonded or become stuck on the surface of the paint then clay should remove this. Use plenty of lube and give it a try.

If the defect is some kind of scuff or etching then a product like Ultimate Compound applied by hand with a foam applicator pad should probably work.

Good deal, I might give it a whirl tomorrow. I just tried my swirl-x on 1/2 of my hood to do a comparison. I clayed, swirl-x, deep crystal polish, gold-class waxed. Boy oh boy does it looks like a million bucks! I can't wait to do the whole car. Thanks for all the help!!
