  • help with avalanche plastic

Hi my chev avalanche needs a little tlc on the exterior plastic. The rear deck area mostly. I have used the mg Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner and it looks good but it only lasts for a short time. The avalanche plastic has that little white fade in the grey plastic. I was looking for a product that lasts longer any ideas?

    Thanks

I saw somewhere you can heat up the plastic, then apply a dressing (Megs Gold Class Trim) let it set for about 20 mins, come back and buff. Seems to work for other people.

            Re: help with avalanche plastic

From my experience with two other similiar Chevy vehicles, the Gold Class Trim Detailer seemed to work the best. I'd lay it on rather thick and then come back and wipe off the excess after 20-30 minutes. It may collect a thin layer of dust over the next couple of days but any of the quick detailer sprays will take that off and it dosen't seem to dust up as bad. The gloss holds up well but any significant weather will take off most anything you put on the plastic trim.

                  FTW....Gold Class Trim Detailer.....

GM's (or at least my Yukon) seem to like GCTD. I've used different products with great results, but GCTD last's the longest and no matter the condition of the trim, it comes back and looks new.

                    Re: help with avalanche plastic

IMO, GC trim detailer withstands multiple washes and outlasts a lot of interior dressings such as GC Vinyl Rubber Protectant or Tech Protect

But GC Trim Detailer and Supreme Shine Protectant are close in terms of how long it lasts

Yep, peanut butter does work, but it WILL attract animals. Racoons, cats etc. You do not want those critters crawling around on your AV.

That GC Trim Detailer looks nice.

I have used Exterior Trim Detailer it worked pretty well. It is aerosal spray, have to watch for overspray. Has decent longevity.

What about the new Supreme Shine? Worked great on the plastic on my golf cart and seems to be holding up very well. Someone else used it on his truck but don't remember who....

I use All Season Dressing on the rear deck of my Avalanche... that said, sounds like it the older body style, correct? If I remember right the older body style had some problems with the plastic and it might be difficult to keep it looking good unless a fresh coat of dressing is applied often.
