  • Few more questions about detailing

    1. First question just wondering how often everyone washes their car? I have been washing mine every week since a got it a month ago cause it gets so dusty from being in the desert.

    2. If I have a some swirls on my car and already have colorx do you think that its worth me getting scratchx 2.0 or just use what I have.

    3. When i go to wax my car should I clay bar it again since it will be about 2 months since I did clay bar and wax. I hear alot of people say they do it once or twice a year and some people do it everytime they wax.

    4. Finally decided to get the grit guard probably should have done it when I first got the car. Is it worth me to wait till I get it and wash the car ( hopefully ill have it by next weekend) or should I just wash it case the car is dusty.

Re: Few more questions about detailing

I would get the Grit Guard ASAP.
I would try ScratchX, but you cannot be using ScratchX every month or so, which is why you need the Grit Guard.
As for claying, you need to touch the paint after a wash to see if you feel the bonded contaminants.
Washing is fine every week, and I think most people of MOL would agree it depends on the weather and where you live, but you need to have the proper technique. Use the proper dilution ratio, and use the Grit Guard in both rinse and soap bucket.

Thank you for the fast response. Is colorx something I can use every 2 months or so when I wax?

Can you Clay Bar the car to much. Say for instance I wax the car every two months and every time it feels like the paint needs it. should I do it every 2 months or do it every other time I wax

I do not think it would hurt the paint as long as you are using enough lube, and the correct clay bar, mild or aggressive.
IMO I do not think you need to use ColorX every two months either, but it is your call.

You can apply the ColorX gently as much as you want. Its not super strong.

But that is why you will likely need a stronger product like the ScratchX 2.0 or Ultimate Compound if you want to remove swirls. But thn you wont need to use those 2 products often if you use good wash techniques, etc.

I am new to detailing. First off dont use the scratchX every 2 months if you could avoid it cuz you will remove your clear coat faster. IMHO if you want better results use the Ultimate Compound to actually see most/all of the scratches disappear and do not use this product more then a few times a year meaning like 1-3 times a year and no more for severe scratches then lets say you use UC and got the scratches out and 4 months later you see a few just use the scratchX sense its a lot less aggressive to remove the minor ones.

Also if you use the 2 bucket technique for washing then you pretty much reduce the chance of getting more swirls and scratchs.

As for clay baring just feel the paints surface if it feels bumpy or like sand paper clay it. I do think that you should clay bar your car before you wax it all times...this was a question of my own "do i need to clay bar for waxing [because i have time constraints i didnt want to]" But I realized that actually clay baring does not really take up too much time and will help with leaving your car glossies and shinier after the wax. Also it helps the wax stay on longer.

In Arizona, you mainly have light dust, so get some quick detailer or ultimate quick detailer, or last touch. Use a couple microfibers and every 2-3 days or whatever, just wipe the dust off with the towels and quick detailer. Will keep that gorgeous shine>
