  • Emergency help needed please

Hi guys....I started today to work on a red Corvette with A LOT OF RIDS.....The CC seems to be very very very hard....The body is made of fiberglass if that matters....I tried almost everything i have without having the wanted results...I used Megs wool pad on rotary with Menzerna Power gloss and Megs Diamond cut #95 as i don't have any of M105 but the RIDS don't want to go away....I have to finish it up to tomorrow noon so all the ideas are welcomed....
I am afraid of wet sand it because I cannot measure the CC so i am afraid of removing to much...My PTG is not reading on non metal surfaces
The entire car is like this and worse

    THANKS GUYS.....

Is that photo before or after you went over it with 95? Just wondering if it's making any difference at all. I would say try the 83 & 80 as well.

This one it is before...There is some improvement (swirls are gone) but there are a lot of RIDS so it looks that i have done nothing to it....(at least in my eyes )...

Try 83 and a maroon pad W-7006 see what that gets you. Just be careful with the edges as corvettes have some sharp edges.

Yeah, you'll be surprised. I've had #80 remove defects that #105 couldn't remove. Give #80 and W-8006 a try too see what that does, of course on the rotory.

                  Re: Emergency help needed please

If #85 didnt do it, not sure what #83 will do? But can certainly try it at this point.

Might just have to be honest with the customer....

                    Re: Emergency help needed please

I will try it tomorrow morning...I already told to the customer that it is not going to be a 100% correction because of the heavy damage, but i would love to surprise him and my self....The problem is that the car is full of those RIDS....In 6 hours i have done only the hood (99% correction by DA polisher, and i was happy because i thought it would be easy, but the heavy damage was on the rest of the car) and the one side (90 % correction with rotary )

                      Re: Emergency help needed please

If M85 Diamond Cut Compound with wool pad on a rotary buffer isn't removing enough paint to remove the RIDS then maybe know when to stop?

Sometimes when accepting a detail job it's not about what can you do, but what should you do?

How did the scratches get into the paint in the first place? If they were instilled by the owner and how he washes or takes care of the car then what's to say it's not going to happen again after you remove them? If that's the case then maybe educate him on how they got there and if northing's going to change then it would be better off to leave them there and thus leave more clear on the car for the service life of the car.

If he bought it this way and wants the nicest looking finish possible and is going to take care of it then maybe educate him on what it's going to take and have him bring the car back when you get some more M105

Then if M105 doesn't do the trick you're left with wet-sanding or turning the job down.

A few ideas to think about...

I'm with you on always trying to surprise the customer. I think we're all just perfectionists. Like Murr mentioned you may have to be honest with the customer and avoid any damage to the paint if you can't get the paint any better.
