Re: Quick Question about waxing
Not quite sure what you mean by the vertical sides? Just hold the G110 against the paint.
As far as claying, there is nothing "wrong" with not doing it, but if the car needs clayed, it wont shine as much as it could.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

Re: Quick Question about waxing
The idea of claying before waxing is just to give the wax the best possible chance to bond to the paint, and last as long as it possibly can.
If you have clayed before, recently (I think you have IIRC), then you are likely fine (unless you got overspray since then or something along those lines).
As for running the G110 on the side panels...nothing really different than the top panels. Just experiment- I'm sure you will figure out what works for you. Just pay attention to making sure the pad is level.

Re: Quick Question about waxing
Also keep in mind, as we covered in the Saturday class,
Gloss comes from a smooth surface, if you have bonded contaminants on the paint these will create texture, (the little bumps you feel on the paint), texture diminishes gloss.
So claying will restore a smooth surface and thus restore a glossy finish.
It also helps your wax adhere better to the paint because there's nothing between the wax and the paint to inhibit good wax adhesion.
In most cases you only need to clay the hood, roof and trunk lid and this can actually be done fairly quickly.
If you car's paint does in fact need to be clayed, the claying it will maximize all your other steps after claying.

Claying should go by fairly quick. I figure you can have this done within 20 minutes if not sooner. Since the sun will be reflecting off the top of the car a better shine will be reached by claying followed by waxing.Jesse

Re: Quick Question about waxing
In addition to the benefits of gloss and wax adhesion, I kind of feel claying helps reduce the chances of instilling swirls/scratches caused by some of the surface bonded contaminants breaking lose and getting caught in your pad during the polishing and/or waxing step.
Don't know if my concern is legitimate or unfounded though. With my black daily drivers I'm a bit paranoid any time I touch the paint.Last edited by gjohn28; Jan 29, 2009, 11:38 AM.2013 Highlander - black
