  • New car on order

Sorry if this has come up recently but have you ever tried to search "New car" You get like every post ever made on the site.

Last night I just ordered a new GM car and won't get it for about 5-6 weeks (custom order) my question is how long before I can clay, wax and polish? I've heard different stories on this. One is wait 6 months and the other is that paint from the factory is curred when it comes out (some oven process).
I ask because before I start driving it I'm having a clear bra put on, and my fear is that if it goes on and I wax later I'll have a car in two shades of white.

    Thanks in advance

Just an FYI, the link was broken, however, if it wasn't, I would have had to break it anyway.

New users need to reach 30 posts before posting click-able links.

So if you have pictures, embed them using the Yellow/mountain icon above the area where you type. Just paste the picture location there).

      You can clay/clean/polish/wax right away.

Though you wont want wax where the bra is going.

Also, remember to tell them not to wash it for you, except where they need to.

Yes, the factory paint job is baked on and therefore fully cured when the car comes off the assembly line. Keep in mind the factory paints vehicles long before final assembly so baking at very high heat is possible. This means you can jump right in with washing, polishing, waxing, etc.

If you plan on having a clear bra installed you would do well to prep the front end fully and remove all swirls and other below surface defects first. I once had someone ask if I could detail their black car after having a clear bra installed. The car was a swirled mess - including under the bra. I explained to the owner that once all the swirls were removed from the rest of the paint the area under the bra would still look terrible and that they should have had me polish before applying the bra. Don't you make the same mistake.

I'm not a member there but I do frequent the forum because I'm in the market for a new car. I can see why you had to special order. I've checked my local inventory for SS coupes and there's only 1 within 50 miles. Crazy.

Tell the dealer you don't want to them to wash it or, you will get the dreaded DISOption!

DISOption? does it equal Dealer inspired swirl option?
