Help Wanted (using power tools)

Over this weekend, I had the chance to wash the car in a heated garage and do a little detail work. It was a great job done.

I used my cousins racing shop to do it. My cousin used to work at an Auto detailed place so he knows most of the stuff when using handy tools.

I got the feeling and practice at using the rotary. I used it to apply the final coat of wax, low speed nice and slow. Worked out well. Sure can be a handful if not used to it.

I am looking for some info and more guide lines to doing this.

Whats the difference bewteen the rotary and an orbital.

When do you use one over the other? Is there any websites that breaks this stuff down into detail?

What pad and product did you use?

If you can, take a look at the finish when it's in bright sun after the paint has been washed a number of times and look to see if there are any holograms or buffer trails left in the paint from the rotary application of wax.

I am not sure what pad I used, It was a foam pad I belieave?

I used the NXT 2.0 wax when I used the rotary to apply it.

Are you saying I could have done it wrong? Just kidding!

I sure dont feel comfortable using it, Not sure that I covered every single spot the same amout as the other spots? Yes I overlapped and all but, Is there some vidoe's I can watch of this?

I used the NXT 2.0 wax when I used the rotary to apply it.

When used as the last step machine process, that is when the last thing you do is use a rotary buffer on the paint, it tends to leave holograms or buffer swirls.

In the case of applying a wax you won't see them because the wax hides them but after a few washes, "if" the rotary buffer/pad left swirls they'll start to show up in bright sunlight.

In most cases, for most people if you want to insure a swirl free finish in any bright light then you want to apply the wax with a DA Polisher, an Orbital Buffer or by Hand.

Just depends upon your goals and expectations for finish quality out of your car.

I do have a buffer at home. Its an old style, one speed!

What kinda pads can I get to apply and remove using the buffer?

For most Pro's and serious online enthusiasts. Production detailers use the rotary for everything but they also tend to swirl out everything.

Check with the manufacture for replacement buffing pads or bonnets, Google should turn something up.

Not that I know of, they're pretty much "Wax Spreaders", that is they're pretty much only good for spreading wax, not correction work when it comes to clear coats.
