Re: Once Again - I Fail

Did you ever ask the dealer what it could be? Or if they messed up and oversprayed something on to it?

Dealer is several hours from me. You know how they are too. They probably wouldn't even admit to seeing it. If they did, they'd say I did it.

Ok, so I'm part blind now from trying to take more pictures in sun. I'll post some momentarily.

Here, see the dots. Again, you have to have intense light, sun doesn't actually work as well as at night with a big light, but anyway. You have to have intense light and get at an angle. See the dots around the sun???

            Another follow up sorry.

Now you guys have seen the picture.

I've used Ultimate Compound with 2.0 polishing pad with G110 a few times last week, and then one application with multiple passes of M105 DA safe yesterday.

Any idea how many more times I could try M105 DA safe, to see if it can get these out before hurting the clear?

The Ultimate Compound didn't even remove swirls really, only the M105 DA safe made the hood fairly swirl free as you see in photo. The rest of car still have some light from dealer swirls. However, I can deal with them I'm sure once I get around to it, but curious how much more I can go over the hood trying to get those dots (dots are also on sides and roof, don't appear to be on trunk lid or back bumper).

The hood finish wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't for the dots would it? See the tree reflection. I like that

The picture didn't help anyone shed some light on this?

Sorry for the delay in posting to your follow up, it's still Monday morning and usually after a weekend there's lot's of catch-up work to do to get caught up with the forum. The forum is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but most people only work on average a 5 day work week.

Whatever the spots are, if you've compounded this car after everything else you've done then whatever they are they're probably not going away as they are in the paint, not on the paint and completely removing them may put you at risk at removing too much paint.

If the spots are equally distributed throughout the entire car then the problem is likely a paint problem when the paint was sprayed.

If the problem is isolated to just horizontal panels then something likely landed on the paint and etched it.

The good news is from the picture you posted it looks like you've created a swirl-free finish!

Re: Once Again - I Fail

Thanks Mike. Hope I didn't sound upset no one had responded. No worries.

I also appreciate your comment that I made a swirl free finish. That makes me feel good, to see it, and hear it! ha-ha. I need to use m105 on the rest of the car now as the bits I had only used UC on didn't get the light swirls out.

I don't think the spots are on the trunk, so maybe it got sprayed with something. I don't know. Do I need to push this Mike? What would you do? I mean, it's a 55k car. I wish it could look right. Any suggestion on what I should do in terms of trying to complain or not? I worked hard to find a car with less dealer installed swirls, but instead I got dots. ha-ha.

Would someday trying a couple extra applications of M105 on the same area probably be ok with a DA? I know there is probably no hope, but it just eats away at me.

                  Thanks so much everyone!

Re: Once Again - I Fail

Sometimes what helps is to have an experienced and seasoned detailer and also a painter look at the defects.

If it's a defects that happened after the car was painted an experienced/seasoned detailer might be able to diagnose the problem.

If it's a defect that happened when it was painted at the factory or if it's been repainted, (either the entire car or just specific areas), an experienced/seasoned painter might be able to diagnose the problem.

Where do you live? Maybe we have someone the forum that has some experience that will take a look at it with you?

Thanks. I'll see what I can find out.

Would they really repaint a brand new car and not tell you, before you bought it?

Thanks again for the help. Appreciate it!!!

Re: Once Again - I Fail

                        Mike

Well I went ahead and went at it again today. I figure if I can't get it to my liking I can have more parts of the car redone when I have that fender done, if I decide to due to the apparent key depression.

Anyway, on the hood Mike, I did 2-3 more goes (lots of passes each go) at it with M105 DA and G110 with polishing pad. Don't know if this is bad but I also put the speed up to 5.5 a while, I know you're only suppose to do 5, but I'm desperate. I cleaned my pad all the time and used an entire new pad each new application to see if that would help too.

I took it in the sun and it seems like there are *less* of the dots, harder to see, and I *think* there are more of them on the raises portions of hood where I don't polish as hard, so if true, that might be a sign that I did remove some of them from other areas of hood, which would make me happy.

I then had one go at the roof, but I was getting tired, so I wrapped it up and didn't make much progress on it as I had worked on the hood so long.

I checked it again tonight under the flood lights, and I still think *maybe* the hood is better than before in terms of the dots as seen above. However, still not perfect by any means, but I think it's better, who knows. You think all the applications, the first week a few applications of UC, then some M105 a couple weeks ago, and all these goes with M105 today could finally be taking just some of them off?

I did use Gold Class for the first time today on this car. I wonder if maybe Gold Class just hides the dots more than NXT?

I felt good though that maybe I made some progress on the dots.
