  • I have Had Enough

This is a bunch of whoo haaa I follow all the gods and listen to the tapes read a bunch of magazines watch the meguiars how to video and still. I am talking about using the Rotary. I decided to use it today on parts of my car for practice, and end up getting myself upset because each time I do it, it justs keeps on gumming up on me. I used the Maroon pad and some DACP on my rear spoiler of my grand prix and my trunck. I primed my pad and applied a small bead of product. With my machiene set at about 1400 rpm. I place my machiene on the spoiler and turn it on lift the machiene ever so slightly to pick up the product and work it in. In about 15 seconds the product gums up and then sticks on the panel and the only way I can get it off is by wiping it off. I understand that I have to work the DACP until it starts to disappear but that wasn't the case it did that too fast. To the point that it couldn't work it in because the product gummed up as I said before and if I worked it in anymore that it would cause more problems. WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING WRONG!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone is in the Michigan area and is willing to take their time out of their day to teach me I will be very greatful.

    Hi screemingtp

Your frustration is causing me frustration too, I wish I could be their in person to lend a hand.

A couple of things, #83 gums up on me too, and here's what I do to cut down on this.

I typically only use it with the W-8006 foam polishing pad.

I either start with a new pad, or clean an existing pad really well first by holding a nylon brush against the face of the pad while bringing up the rpms.

I use only a small amount of product, a little goes a long ways, especially after your pad breaks in.

I clean my pad often as I'm buffing the car both with a nylon brush and by holding a terry cloth towel into the foam pad as it's spinning to pull out any excess product.

If you cannot get this product to work, try using the #80 Speed Glaze with either the cutting pad, (W-7006 or W-7000), or with the yellow polishing pads. For heavy cutting, use #84 Compound Power Cleaner with a cutting pad, (foam), and follow with the Speed Glaze on a polishing pad.

Try one or a couple of the above options and see if you get any better results.

      Your not alone

I Subscribe to this Thread to keep up on the responses to see what I'm doing wrong also.

The only thing I see we did differently is I used a W8006 pad.

As of yet I have not used the rotary again.

This is the post I did on the same topic

        a few sugestions
        1. slow the polisher down a touch, try 1200
        2. use less product
        3. try the polishing pad

it might also have to do with how fast or slow you are moving the polisher, I would guess you are moving the polisher a little too slow and creating too much heat and that will gum up pad.

If you were local I would show you how to get a good start at high speed polishing.
If you dont play you CANT win!
