  • First Time using Ultimate Compound

    Mike,
Found some ultimate compound at walmart. Tried it by hand with a terry towel on my balck, '96 4runner. Black got on the towel, so I assume I have no clear coat. Put on some nxt spray wax and it looks very nice.

What pad should I use on my da for the UC, and for the nxt spray wax? I did not claybar before the UC. Does UC do the same work as clay bar?

I took your post out of the thread for Ultimate Compound and created your own new dedicated thread...

Sounds like you have a single stage paint. What did it look like before you started? Dull?

That's a good indicator. If it is a single stage, applying a pure polish is an optional step but in most cases it will really bring out the depth and gloss of a dark single stage paint.

First, you would use a polishing pad with the UC, like our W-8006 or our W-8207

You apply the spray wax by hand as outlined here,

How To Get Great Results With Meguiar's Spray Wax!

Actually if you really want to lock in the protection it would be better to use a normal wax, either a paste or a liquid as a spray on wax tends to be more used for touching up a previously waxed surface.

The most effective way to remove above surface bonded contaminants is to use detailing clay but our new Ultimate Compound is pretty aggressive so it should do the job, but again, the most effective way to remove above surface bonded contaminants is to use detailing clay, keyword being effective.

My 4runner is not dull. I does have swirls, but is in pretty good shape. I do have pine tree sap spots to deal with.
