Is watching your DVD with the black vette a good way to learn the "art" of how to use ScratchX and a foam pad by hand? This is what I'm copying.

The manner in which I applied ScratchX was correct for what I was trying to correct on that paint. That single stage black paint was completely swirled out and the way your remove swirls is your remove enough paint to level the upper most surface of the paint with the lowest depths of the defects you're trying to remove.

With the versions of ScratchX before ScratchX 2.0 in order to remove any substantial amount of paint by hand you really needed to work the diminishing abrasives against the paint, not merely wipe it on and spread it around. So the way I was applying it on that Corvette was the correct way.

It's also important to note that after working an area aggressively to start with, at some point you need to balance that with some follow-up rubbing that is lighter and more gentle in order to insure you remove any scratches or marring you may have put in when working the product aggressively.

You're working on a Motorcycle, is the black surface you're working on clear coated black paint or is it high gloss black plastic? (It's been a few years since I was into the bike scene but I have owned a number of large motorcycles).

Update us as to where you're at with your scratches after you try some of the recommendations already posted above.

We'll do our best to see you through to success....
