  • Any Advice for Those Living on Dirt Roads?

Living on a long dirt road really takes its toll on my 05 VW Passat. Any tips or tricks to keep dirt/dust off the car? Only thoughts I have are drive slow and wash often...

Drive slower and invest in and learn how and when to properly use a car duster. You will have to wash more often for apparent reasons as well. I drove my lowered car on a dusty, dirty, partly washed out muddy road for years. Not much you can do to change mother nature unfortunately. When I washed it at the coin-op, I liked to spend a minute or two and spray underneath the car all around to get any dust, dirt, or mud out from underneath.

This one looks like it would be more fun though...

Outside of driving slow and the things already mentioned there's not a lot else you can do...

If you keep your car freshly waxed then maybe using a leaf blower you could safely blow a lot of the dust off?

Just an idea, I've never tried this, usually there's enough of a static charge in the dust and on the car to make blowing dust off pretty difficult unless it's real fresh and the paint is real clean and smooth.

Microfibers and your favorite quick detailer....

I feel your pain. I also live on a gravel road. It is hard to think that as soon as i leave my car port, that my car will get covered in gravel dust. My family thinks i am crazy, but i just tell them "Well it's still shiny underneath all that dust". I also hope that keeping a good coat of wax is still going to preserve the paint, even if it does have dust on it.

Seriously next time around buy a car that doesn't show dust as much. I found out the hard way. After driving black trucks daily for 12 years on my gravel road, I finally bought two white ones. I think that the dust from these roads is a bit too heavy for just a QD or duster. I have used rinseless washes (QEW oand ONR) and they work OK.

p.s. I quit being so fussy. That helped too.

Ahh, that is hell for a detailer lol

Drive as slow as possible everytime.

If dust isn't that bad, then try UQD, but I'd Be afraid. Hose off your car and keep a nice coat of wax on it always.
