  • Cloudy finish after using Deep Crystal System Polish.....

    Hello!! Please help!!

I've bought few items roughly two years ago from Meguirs including swirl remover, polisher and wax liquid as well as Dual Action Polisher.

Just this past weekend, I've pulled all these out from my cabinet wanting to shine-up my black vehicle. After washing the car, I started with SPEED GLAZE #80 and Meguire's Duel Action Polisher to remove light swirl marks on the surface, which worked out great. I've used Meguirs Microfiber towel to clean up the residuals. Then, I moved on to polishing using DEEP CRYSTAL SYSTEM POLISH by hand instead of using Dual Action Polisher, then again used Microfiber towel to remove the remains. Just looking at the finished surface after finishing one panel, I noticed that clear glare on the panel that was seen after swirl removing is now back to be cloudy. I stopped at this point before moving on to finish remaining panels. I still have waxing to do.........

Did I use wrong combination of chemicals? Was it the hand polishing that made it cloudy? Any one has experience using this combination of chemicals? Any advise would help.

    Thank you!!

Cloudy as in swirls on it? Or cloudy like there is product left behind?

          Test Spot
In the future, it's always a good idea to test each product/step to a small section all the way through the process and then check your results. Make sure you can make a small area look good with your process, (products and application method), before going over the entire car. That way if something isn't working, at least you've only worked on a small section.

Also, anything that touches the paint can affect how it looks, that's why it's so important to always use the softest, highest quality applicator pads, buffing pads and polishing cloths you can obtain.

First thing to try would be to use the M80 again to the section that you applied Deep Crystal Polish to, if you could make the paint look good with M80 the first time you should be able to do it the second time.

Then apply some wax to this area and see how the finished results look.

M80 has plenty of polishing oils and for the most part you don't need to follow it with a second pure polish step.

I wonder if your bottle of Deep Crystal Polish has gone bad? I don't know if that is possible or likely, but it is two years old. Fortunately, you only applied it to one panel. As Mike suggests, you should be able to restore that one panel by a fresh polishing with M80, and then your car is ready for wax. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Cloudy finish after using Deep Crystal System Polish.....

Deep Crystal Polish is a non-abrasive pure polish and shouldn't dull down or hazy any previously polished surface as long as it's applied using a clean, soft foam or microfiber applicator pad.

Since the only products in the Meguiar's line that need to dry re the waxes and paint sealants, neither the M80 nor the Deep Crystal Polish needs to dry. You would apply them, work them, and then wipe them off.

Allowing a pure polish to dry would make wipe off more difficult and this could lead to scratching the paint if you're having to fight or struggle with wiping it off.

Using a tatty applicator pad or polishing cloth could cause scratching but Deep Crystal Polish by itself shouldn't haze, cloud or dull the paint.

              Troubleshooting
A simple test you can also do is to take a flawless finish and using your clean, soft bare hand, apply a little and spread it around like lotion on your skin. Then immediately wipe off the residue, (gently and carefully), with a clean, soft microfiber and then inspect the results. By doing this you've removed "Application Material" from the process as a way of troubleshooting where the problem could have come from.

Again, if the M80 is getting the paint to where you want it, try re-polishing with M80, then waxing, then inspect the results.

                Murr1525,

I just had very closer look with flourescent light and it appears like swirl mark is back on the surface. I just used brand new microfiber towel to wipe the surface to make sure it wasn't remining of the polish product and it wasn't. So looks like I used a wrong pad for this..... I threw away the tag that was on this pad so I can't recall what brand/type it was. Maybe time to buy few pads from Meguiar.

                  Everyone, thanks for the feedback.

As soon as I get "better" pad, I will go back and remove the swirl and go directly to wax. Although my product has past over two year time period, Speed Glaze worked well so I'm guessing my other product is still good. I'm not sure if Meguiar has any shelf life limit, but I will let you guys know after I use the product. I will do one panel first before finishing the entire car.

                  Once again, thanks all.

At this time Meguiar's doesn't recommend using "our" foam cutting pads with a DA Polisher as they will remove defects just fine but tend to leave micro-marring or haze behind.

Other company's foam cutting pads have been known to do this to clear coats also.

Pick up a couple of our yellow foam polishing pads and give them a try with the M80

Our yellow foam recipe is a long time proven winner.

Also, check out this thread and look at the pictures, from Hot Topics

You need to read the text that goes with these pictures to understand what's going on in each section.

ok, i KNOW this has been asked a billion times but:

                        DC2 says to LET DRY

But only waxes need to dry right?

Yeah, I think a few bottles got bad directions for a little while.

DC2 should be removed before drying.
