I wonder if these special microfiber detergents really are "better" for microfiber fabrics. What makes them different? What makes them better?

I didn't notice a difference...it smelled like a degreaser too. Just regular liquid Tide for me.

I know what you mean. I always wash all my towels together and have never had a problem.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Folks may find of interest Leo Cerutti's recommendations on caring for microfiber towels. Leo (alias DFTowel) has been a member of MOL since 2004. I gather he has been connected with the textile and garment industry a long time.

DFTowel definitely considers them a waste of money.
Could be, but liquid Tide isn't free.
If you check around, the Micro-Restore in gallons can be purchased at a reasonable price. It takes very little of it, (2 oz. per load), so the cost is not a factor for me. At the price I pay for the Micro-Restore it works out to about 36 cents a load. I can handle that every 2 to 4 weeks.
It does seem to get the towels clean and maybe being part "degreaser" helps.
I don't worry too much about why something works. Mostly just accept that it does.

I always wash everything together for a few years now, never noticed any problems yet.
I put microfibre and pads together, terry is going in regular white wash.

I picked up an AG product in trade similar to Micro restore. Although I do not see any real difference, the mf cleaner is liquid where as Tide and most other laundry detergents are more like gels.

I can see how these gels may be more difficult to rinse out (a theory) especially when someone uses too much. If you have a front loader, be sure to use as little as possible since adding more despite a second rinse may not rinse clear. More is NOT better. After I adjusted the detergent usage, I do not seem to need any vinegar step.

Thanks for all of the input. I don't know if it's the towels or if I inadvertently washed something with my water magnets, but they aren't performing as well as I'd like. I'll definitely be more careful when washing towels now.

I'll have to buy more towels so that my wash loads aren't too small!

Re: Washing drying towels and microfibers together?

After years of keeping my towels separate, I now just through them all in the wash together. I make sure there is nothing that will create a bunch of lint. Anything that is really grubby is prewashed by hand before throwing it in the machine. No problems

I wash all of my foam application pads by hand.

I seperate my towels into what type they are. I will only wash microfiber with microfiber. Wash hot with dish detergent.
