  • You judge these pics...

I had a lengthy discussion with 'Ben', on Friday 01/02. He is acquainted with you MP, and he understood my questions about dry-wiping, and leaving wax and oil to conceal scratches and swirls, vs soapy wipedowns after applying scratch removal, to see the REAL story.

So I did it myself. Here are the results:

Blade 1, I edited your post as new members are not allowed to post any clickable links before reaching 30 substantial posts.

You may want to try creating a fresh thread with embedded pictures if you don't mind spending the time doing it. I also think some discussion and clarification could help you better understand how to best use ScratchX from what I read.

Here are some things to mention:

      - Doesn't Nu Finish have a protectant?

      - If the surface has recently been polished (not a true polish, but a cleaner), it will bead water. The water beading / sheeting does not always mean that there is a wax or oil being left behind.

      - ScratchX does not leave any protectant or oils on the finish.

Trust me, I completely understand your questions, I've had the good fortune to answer these questions a few times over the years. In fact there's a few threads in our Hot Topics forum.

What can we do to help you the most?

We're really not here to "sell" you as you requested in your first post to this forum. Meguiar's products work and work well, including ScratchX.

ScratchX is a defect removal product, not a finishing product. If you want a 100% swirl-free and defect free finish after only using a paint cleaner on a clear coated finish that's perfectly fine but on some paints that will require the use of a machine so that you'll have even pressure exerted over the entire surface of a foam buffing pad.

Some people can get really close to a flawless finish by hand but that depends upon their skill level and sometimes that depends upon the paint itself.

Not sure if you're aware of this but clear coat finishes are kind of tricky to work on, especially if you have show car standards.

If ScratchX isn't working for you then please feel free to take advantage of our satisfaction guarantee by taking the product with your receipt back to where you purchased it.

Then as my sig line says,

"Find something you like and use it often"

If you like it, then you obviously like how it applies and removes and it looks good in your eyes, if you use it often your car's paint will always look new because it's only when paint is neglected that it goes down hill.

And to make sure you're away, here's our forum rules.

          Re: You judge these pics...

Blade 1, I don't think your comparison is complete. While you did test the products they all don't work the same, plus Scratch X is not a finishing product as Mike stated.

The label even says, "For maximum results, immediately follow with an application of a high quality Meguiar's wax to enhance and protect the restored finish."

I believe this will give you the shine and finish you desire. Also, you even say in one of your last posts (on that other site) that Scratch X didn't leave any new swirls, and isn't that really what you a clearer finish with less scratches.

If you do a Google video search for Scratch X a one minute clip will come up (featuring Mike) on how to use Scratch X. I have the entire DVD and in that it is stated that while working Scratch X in you want to work it in until the product goes from a while film to more of an oily clear film. It also may take a few applications to get the desired results as some scratches are deeper than others.

Keep reading up and trying out and you should reach your desired results. Hope it works out for you.

I updated the thread, and identified each product / each section. And yes, I did comment that another component might be necessary on some sections.

And I seeing I'm a stockholder now in Meg's through acquisition, being a shareholder in 3M, and being VERY happy with their numbers.
