Depends upon how much you use the pad and how loaded it gets with product. Kind of personal preference at some level.

In most cases you should wash any pad you've been doing cleaning with to remove the used product and any paint particles you've removed along with other contaminants.

When it comes to applying a finishing wax on a perfectly prepared surface however then there's times where you might not feel the need to wash the pad, just remove from the polisher and store in a clean, dry place.

You can if you want to, wash all your pads after each use.

Maybe find a balance that fits the cars you work on. We typically wash all the pads after every use at Meguiar's Garage.

      Any quality detergent.

At Meguiar's Garage we use Tide Liquid as the washing machines we use state to use a liquid. (Front Loading)

At the Phillips family household we use Tide Powder but before we wash anything we add the soap and less water than we're going to use for the wash job and let the soap and water mix thoroughly before adding anything. We also do this when we use liquid detergents.

The idea being to insure a completely mixed water and soap solution versus loading a washing machine up with microfibers, pads, clothes, (anything you wash), and then placing dry soap on top of this and then starting the cycle as now the soap has to work it's way through everything and dissolve.

Just a little tweak in the process.

I wash all my pads after each use...

I just run them under very hot water and squeeze them out and let them air dry...

I wash mostly after each use. I just run them under hot water, and squeeze them out until the water becomes clear and the pads look clean. I do not use detergent all though. I then put the wet pad the the DA and slowly go up to 6 and then slowly come down to 1. I dries them pretty well.

Are these Soft Buff 1.0 pads? You use no detergent at all? Seems like it would be really difficult to get the pads clean without some type of cleaner...
