Not sure if this can even be answered here but here goes...I tried to clean the motor on my 2002 Isuzu Rodeo..and as soon as i started to drive it i noticed it was running very rough..nothing was covered as i didn't use alot of water...I have since sprayed the electrical components with WD 40..I'm actually getting ready to check the plugs..not sure how water can get in there but worth a shot...any info would be helpful..

          More info would be helpful:

Did you use water? How much?
Did you spray the entire engine compartment?
Was the engine hot or cold?
          Any seals cracked or brittle?
          Hoses intact?

          Others feel free.

To 02Rodeo, I think you should have started a new thread as this one was started in 2009. A far as running rough after a engine wash. Usually some water will get into the recessed spark plug holes and cause a misfire. If they are recessed in the cyl. head pull the wires out if you find moisture blow out the hole with compressed air, leave the spark plug in of course. Before re installing the wires use silicone grease or spark plug grease around the connections to prevent this from happening again. Also they could have gotten water under the other end of the wire at the coil packs. If old wires be gentle with them. In rare cases it could have gotten into the intake so make shure the air filter is dry. Dont forget the silcone grease I used to have this problem all the time.

Some times if you just let it run awhile it will dry out and the problem will just go away.

Your probably right Bock...should started a new thread..My Rodeo has coil packs on each spark plug..I took them off and sprayed some WD 40 in them..I didn't see any moisture on them though..I changed the air filter after I did this..was planning on it any way but it was dry.. This happened yesterday...Not sure if that helps.

So is it still running rough today? There is other things you can check.

                      1. Did you let it run a while to see if it would dry out?
                      2. I dont know how mechanical you are but does it feel like a misfire?
                      3. Do you have aney electricical plugs that are cracked? Aney plugs or connectiors that you think may have water can also have silicone grease puit inside and re connected. Some auto makers apply this at the factory.
                      4. Did you wash the engine while it was hot or warm? If so an intake manifold leak may have developed. {very rare, but possible.}.
                      5. Since you have been under the hood on a car that is about 13 years old, it is possible an old brittle vacume hose may have broken and just needs to be replaced. Very likley.
                      6. This is why most people dont detail motors. Once you find the prob. everything will be fine.

Thank's Bock..Trying to keep the motor as clean as the body..won't do it again..The motor was warm...I just talked to a friend of mine who said when the engine light comes on have someone hook up a diagnostic computer and it will give a code and which cylinder is misfiring...Thats what it feels like..no power..The engine light has come on and gone off..So when and if it comes back on i'll do that..

If your car was bought in the USA you have a on board diagnostic 2 computer system. If your check engine light has come on once latley and your battery has not been disconected you can scan that code now no need to wait, the computer saves it in its memory for 50 or 100 drive cycles depending on the auto maker. If you don't have a scan tool some auto parts stores can scan it for free or let you rent a tool.

It's best to wash the engine bay when it is cool.
