Re: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen

Any recommendations for daily drivers who see their fair share of bugs?

I drive about 60 miles a day on my daily driver and was wondering about how to keep those bugs from sticking in the front bumper.

Perhaps a double coat of wax may help?

Currently before I wash I spray some APC let it sit for a min and then do the wash and it seems to help. Would multiple coats of wax be better protecting ?

    What do you guys think?

I have done the wet paper towel method mentioned in the link.

Seems to work pretty good when things are fresh, and saves stripping the wax.

I just let it soak for a while as I do the wheels, etc, then wash the car.

If NXT is a synthetic sealant and Gold Class Wax is a polish/wax, then couldn't you apply a layer of Gold Class followed by a layer of NXT to give an extra deep shine look and strong protection?

Re: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen

I detail my car every 2-3 months. Let's say I'm doing a correction session as well. Mind you, the car's a 2009 Civic (soft paint) and although I use reasonable methods and materials in its weekly washes, there are a couple very light, short, almost invisible scratches in the clear because I haven't purchased the GritGuard yet.

Where does the cleaner wax come in, if at all?

Essentially, for the detail session, it'd be
              NXT wash
              Clay
              m205
#7 mild polish (I also have DC2 to substitute)
DC1 Cleaner Wax? No idea where this would go.
              2 thin coats of NXT
Touch up w/ Last Touch QD

Please offer advice on my steps and what can be rearranged, left out, or added if needed. Thanks .

Re: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen

I just noticed that your query had gone unanswered. You have outlined a nice process. If I were you, I would eliminate the DC1 Paint Cleaner as an unnecessary step. The M205 will clean the paint. Just go with:

                NXT wash
                Clay
                M205
                #7 or DC2
                2 thin coats of NXT
Touch up w/ Last Touch QD

Given how attentive you are to the care of your car, with detailing sessions every 2-3 months, you might want to save the DC1 for those occasions when you do not need to effect any paint correction but just want to do a deep cleaning of the paint and remove previous layers of wax.

The DC1 would also remove the polish you had for #7, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the replies! I'll leave out the DC1 for now .
Edit: I just came across the NXT thread which did not recommend applying any liquids or QD to the NXT surface for at least 12 hours "To not disturb the polymer bonding process" or something to that effect...so I'll just save the QD for the next day after waxing, because surely the occasional streak/shadow appears after curing.

                      Sure.

You can apply any quality wax or paint sealant to the front of a car but with enough bugs impacts, sooner later the bug guts are going to accumulate on the paint and in some cases cause damage in the way of an etching.

Hello, I'm going to by first time detailing/removing swirls from my car and following your product list, I am unable to find SwirlX at any local shops, but there is ColorX and ScratchX 2.0. Would it be recommended to apply ColorX multiple times to remove the light swirling or jump to ScratchX and just apply that lightly since it is rated to be more abrasive than SwirlX?
Thank you for your time and writeup!

Iceblade, I think you will get a more diverse and better informed response if you re-post your interesting questions in a new thread in Detailing 101. A lot of folks tend to skip over old threads like this one.

Is there any significant difference between Gold Class car wash & NXT car wash ?
