  • few quick questions about PC 7424

just got mine in today on UPS, I cant wait to use it.

I also got 2 extra foam pads... one aggressive and one not... they are the velcro 6" kind... so I have these 2, plus the one that came with the PC, total of 3

with the PC i bought, it came with the hook and loop 6" backing and weight thing...

I also got 2 of the microfiber bonnets for removing the wax too..

im wanting to try this all out tonight or tomorrow... but had a few questions...

    1. iv never really waxed my truck much. Its a 00 Ford Lightning and its black with a few light swirls and scratches... when Iv waxed before by hand I had to wait anywhere from 30mins to an hour to let it dry and even then it was HARD to remove and sometimes still "foggy"

when I apply my wax, swirl remover, polish, etc now with the PC... how long should I apply it for??? and then, how long before I try and remove it???

    2. how do I clean the foam pads so I can use over and over?.

Compound cleaners and pure polishes don't need to cure, you simply apply to a haze and immediately wipe away. Wax is best done panel by panel. Let it haze then remove. I wouldn't wait more than the time it takes to do the next panel to remove the wax from the previous panel. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to remove.

so before when I was doing by hand, do you think I was waiting too long instead of not long enough??

i thought I was supposed to wiat for it to dry, so I was waiting a long time.... but when I would remove, it was REAL hard and always seems to leave a "shadow' like fog behind....

For all of the products except the wax, "Yes", you were waiting too long. Compounds, Paint Cleaners, Cleaner/Polishes and Pure Polishes do not need to dry before removing and allowing these product to dry will often make them more difficult to remove.

Waxes need to dry before you remove them, at least Meguiar's waxes do.

What kind of wax were you using?
Were you applying and leaving behind a thick coat of wax?
What were you using to remove it?

All Meguiar's waxes can be removed once they have dried to a haze, (usually 10 to 15 minutes, sometimes longer depending on humidity and temperature), or pass the swipe test.

For serious paint defects, you want to use a cleaner/polish on about the 5.0 setting with 3-5 pounds of pressure applied to the head of the polisher and work a small section, about 2 feet by 2 feet for 8-10 minutes. The dual action polisher offers a very gentle polishing action, this is why it's so safe, and also why it takes longer to remove defects than an rotary buffer for example.

For pure polishes and waxes, you only have to make a couple of overlapping passes and then you can move onto new area. You can use a softer pad, and a speed of around 3.0 to 4.0

and then, how long before I try and remove it?
Remove everything but the wax immediately after applying it. For example, after polishing the hood, put the polisher aside and remove the polish from the hood and then start on a fender.

              What chemicals are you using?

I've answered this numerous times in the Detailing 101 forum, you look and I'll look, (use the Search button), and lets see if we can find it in a post over there.

The Zaino products, like all waxes and paint protection products, are supposed to be applied using thin coats. Usually applying too much of any product can make that product difficult to remove.

The cool thing about the G-100, (Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher), is that it helps you to lay down a thin, uniform layer. Try the polisher for applying this product or any wax on a slow setting, like the 3 on the variable speed dial, this will help a lot.
