  • Brother's Damage 2

This is round 2 of my brother being a terrible driver. This is his forth time damaging a car. One time he completely destroyed the driver side door of a rental car. Surprisingly it only cost $400 to fix. He took the truck last night to go to a friends house, and I watched the terrible situation occur. He was backing up very fast in an unfamiliar vehicle at night, and he did not turn to miss the driveway marker. Here are some pictures. If you can not tell there is white paint transfer and green paint transfer. The green is on the bottom.

Here is a picture of the white paint transfer:

This picture shows the green the best. It kind of looks white, but I assure you it is green.

This picture shows the paint transfer the best. Near the top of the picture is the white and in the middle is the green.

Even though it is cold today I have no choice but to work on it today. I would have preferred to have done it last night when it was more fresh, but he left soon after I can to look at it. As Stevens Auto Detailing Website says, " You vehicle is not only an investment, it's a reflection of you."
    Thanks for looking.

Do you know how to remove paint transfer?

Do you have either M105 or M04?

        Re: Brother's Damage 2

        Check out this thread,

        Removing Paint Transfer
(Removing another car's paint from my car's bumper)

Usually what works best to remove paint transfered from one object to another object is a compound or paint cleaner where the abrasive is fairly chunky so that the chunky abrasive has enough abrading power to scrub the transfered paint off the pre-existing paint and this is key, without also gouging and scouring the original or pre-existing paint.

In the past products like our M01 Medium Cut Cleaner or M04 Heavy Cut Cleaner worked well for this as the diminishing abrasive in these two products is fairly chunky in size and texture but because they are both diminishing type abrasives while they may dull the original paint the dully or hazing is easily removed using a second cleaning step with a less aggressive product like ScratchX or any of our cleaner/polishes in our Professional Line.

        Make sense?

Check out the thread I linked to above. M83 doesn't really work for this because it feels like Jergens Hand Lotion, i.e. it's not a chunky type of diminishing abrasive, same for ScratchX. M80 can work a little but it doesn't tend to work the best.

Our existing M105 will work, our new M105 coming out will work and our new Ultimate Compound will work and our new ScratchX 2.0 should work also.

M01 and M04 do work but because they are rotary buffer only product they will tend to dull the paint with scratches from being applied by hand, again these can be removed with a follow-up step using a less aggressive product. The goal being first to remove the transferred paint and second, fix the damage caused by the removal process with the end result being a nice looking finish.

Thanks a lot Mike. I will try to figure out what my approach is with my G110. I will be sure to post before and after pictures when it is finished.

Go to the Popular Tags Box and click on the word exert

In most cases, that is unless the paint transfer is very light, your hand is going to be more effective at removing the transfered paint because your 4 fingers pushing down on some kind of applicator pad or application cloth can exert more pressure to a small are than you can with a DA Polisher because all the pressure will be spread out over the entire face of the foam pad.

Do try though and let us know how it goes...

                  Re: Brother's Damage 2

So I tried 2 coats of ScratX. It removed the rest of the loose paint. Then I went to my DA, I used the polished pad on 3 and 5 with M 80. It did a little bit more than ScratX did. I got rid of the green paint transfer. And shined up the paint, so that you can not see the scuff/transfer/scratch as easily. I think in a few weeks I will order a sample of M105 and M205 along with some concentrated cleaners from ADS. I also worked M83 and M80 on the other spot he screwed up. Although in both cases I think he went through the clear atleast in his first time. I am no exactly sure about this time if it went through the clear coat. Anyways, here are the after pictures:

As you can tell by the pictures you can still see the damage, but this is up close and right there at the damage. Also IMO it is much improved.

Here are pictures of the other damage he has done to the passanger side rear of the truck. The afters did not turn out that well, but with the M83/80 combo it go rid of swirls, but the scrathes I believe went through the clear coat so I could not do much.

Looksa a lot better. Maybe it would be cheaper in the long run to invest in sending your brother to driving school.

I wish that could happen. But my parents would not have done anything about it, even though this has happened several times before. After talking with my mom she says he will learn from his mistakes, but obviously not. I really do not want him driving the truck anymore, but chances are he will still drive it. I think he likes the fact that it is clean and looks great. My dad brought up the point of if he took a different vehicle I would not have cared, which is true. But that is exactly why I do not want him to drive it. Thanks for the compliments. When I get more money I will put in my next order from ADS.

theres always the bright side....let him drive it more often then the chance of you getting a new truck by having this one totaled increases dramatically.....and if he tries to drive that one.... you can always have that line "remember what happened to the my last truck".....

if it was my truck i wouldve gave them hell..... will not be settled until he never touch the truck again.... so what if he wants to drive it.... he doesnt need to drive it..... and he wont drive it.... he is taking the other car bc he doesn't know how to drive

simplest thing you can do is just confiscate all the keys to your truck.... then your brother can't take the truck without having to go through you.... which wont happen....problem solved....
