If you're using a DA Polisher you don't have to mist anding onto the pad.

Usually you mist some M34 onto a dry cutting pad, either foam or wool before bringing the pad rotating at approximately 1500rpm down on a paint finish using a rotary buffer because the potential to create a lot of heat really fast is a risk, so lubricating the pad helps to reduce the risk of burning the paint.

It's also personal preference. Instead of misting on some M34 to moisten a buffing pad a person can lay down a bead or strip of product, pick it up and only buff for a short cycle. Now your pad is broken in as since it was dry it will have absorbed some of the product. Stop the buffer, add a little more product and you get the same results more or less. Of course having years of experience in being careful also helps.
