  • advice on cleaning windows?

I can never seem to get windows properly clean with smeers or swirls that you can see in directly sunlight.I use mequiar's detailer window cleaner and have tried mirofibers, terry towels. They just don't come out right and drive me crazy.Any tips ???????

it's important not to clean your windows in direct sunlight, also you try using a newspaper or a different product. Everytime I run out of a glass cleaner I try some other brand, so far they all seem the same to me (20/20,invisible glass, armor all, rain x)

Newspaper does the trick every time.

I use the same cleaner and have no problems. I use a couple of microfiber towels. The first one is dampened with the cleaner and I use the second MF dry. My windows are streak-free even in the sun at a low angle.

You might want to try pre-cleaning them with some vinegar first to see if there is any oily residue causing the problem.

Don't use any ammonia based cleaners as this will cause these streaks.

You might also try cleaning and drying the inside with a horizontal motion and the outside with a vertical motion. That way you can identify if the streaking problem is on the inside, outside or both.

          I agree 100% with jfelbab.
Making sure the window's are cool is the most important. Employing the two microfiber towel's almost ensures perfection. Also, I don't know the effect this would have but make sure you are mixing the window cleaner with good clean water. I prefer distilled.

I use Stoner's invisible glass and two terry towels. Everytime I do this I generate enough static to raise the hairs on my arms!!

              GET THE GLASS CLEAN

              MTP.
I have found a solution of distilled water and rubbing alcohol
mixed 60/40. Water being the 60%, works great. This is what
              i do.
              1. Make sure your auto is in the shade and glass is cool to touch.
              2. With 60/40 mix apply to a soft, clean, dry micro towel.
              3. Go over windows on the inside of auto.
              4. With another micro towel go over outside of windows.
You will see streaks but not to worry.
              5. Now clean inside and outside of windows with STONERS
window cleaner.Use newspaper for this. I usually go over my windows two times.
Try this method and post your results. It has given me out-
              standing results for years.

                Hey MRWF,
If you like the rubbing alcohol/ water mix I would really recommend that you give the new pro. line glass cleaner a try. It has a very similar feel to it and works very well. My grandpa always used to use that same mix and I have gotten him to switch over because he like the New Professional Line Glass Cleaner Better.
