  • Mold Issues

I washed my Nitro today and noticed on the roof, in the edges of the panels, a black mold growing. The first time I detailed the vehicle I noticed the same thing but I was quite surprised to see it again as I regularly wash and wax. Fortunately cleaner wax removes it quite easily. Has anyone else had this problem?

Have seen mold on Motorhomes before, not really cars, trucks and s.u.v.s that are daily drivers...

Do you see or find any mold on anything or any other cars in the same general area? Neighbor's cars?

Do you park under or around trees a lot?

I never thought to ask anyone, there not the type that really cares about their cars. We have had a lot of dew in the morning and it is cool, and humid, so it takes a while for the sun to dry the vehicle. That is probably the reason or at least a contributer.

I get a green algae growing on my Focus which sits outside 24/7. It seems to grow along the window strips and under the edges of rubber moldings. I've found the best way to control it is to use a microfibre cloth when I am washing the car and scrub at the affected areas. The algae comes off pretty easily. I would imagine it forms pretty much under the same conditions as the mold on your Nitro.

Maybe the spores are still there and you have to kill them. Bleach will kill them and I am not sure what it would do to the paint. Just a guess!
