  • detailing my car today....suggestions

hello everyone. after joining this forum and reading various topics, i decided its time i give it a go on this sunday morning.

yesterday i did a little shopping and picked up these fine products. didn't realize it will cost $$$$ to get my car looking good. lol. but its money well spent.

now after reading the thread about removing swirls by hand, i started to work on it. the swirlX does work. unfortunately my swirls are deeper than i thought. scratchX does get some out but the deeper ones stay. also as you can see from the pic below, there are some deep scratches on clear coat left by the mechanic that worked on my car recently. the scratchX won't get that out.

i am gonna buy a G110 polisher next week and try again. my question is should i use the scratchX with the G110 or should i get the #83 if i am gonna use a machine?

also a pic of the trunk. as you can see the swirls aren't light.

an finally a pic of my car.

so any suggestions on how i can get the car back to the way it was when it left the lot brand new, i would really appreciate it. like i said up there, i will be buying the G110 and all the necessary attatchments.

    thanks in advance,

    chad

I'm a newbie, but I think if you ordered M-105 and M-205, that should get you were you need to be...ADS will have what you need.

You will not go wrong at ADS. Rick is always willing to help. I hope you bought some #80. Meguiars always teaches use the least aggresive method first. Try a test spot with the #80, Wipe off with a supreme shine microfiber. If you have achieved the results you are after, You have the prescription for the rest of your car. Good luck.

No, clay is typically only needed every 6-12 months. It varies based on where the car is kept, how often it is washed, and your environment (ie what is falling on the car).

You will easily be fine with a week in between.

FYI, a good way to tell if you need to clay is to wash the vehicle, and while wet put your fingers inside a plastic bag and run it over the paint. If you feel bumps, it needs clay. If it is smooth, you're good to go

2.0 paste is awesome, but myself and a lot of others in here have found the liquid version a little easier to remove. Just a heads up...

                          Just to follow up...

In most cases you wouldn't need to clay your car again within a week of previously claying it unless there was some kind of contaminant in the air where you park your car. That's whey we stopped our truck and took the pictures in the below thread, it drives home this point... (no pun intended)

How often do I need to clay my car's finish?

If you spent one day detailing your car including claying it and applying a coating of wax, and the next day your car was parked in a parking lot like this,

And about 100 yards away is a painter elevated into the sky spraying paint onto a building like this...

Then because the wind will tend to carry the overspray through the air until it finds a place to touch down and come to rest, you may very well need to clay your car the next day.

"How often you need to clay your car's finish depends on what's floating in the air where you park your car"

So you should be okay just check first by feeling the paint.

thanks for all the help and suggestions. you guys rock.

i reinspected the car after i did all the work and the light swirls are no more. now the deeper scratches remain. i ordered the #80 and the G110 so with that and alot of reading on this forum, i should be able to get them out. i am sure if i kept working the swirlX i could of got some more out but i figured since i will be buying the polisher, i'll wait.

the downside to all this is that it is pouring outside. AHHHHH. lol. at least my car was in the garage for a good 14 hours before it touched any rain.

and i just ordered the "how to use the pc for showcar results" dvd. i think i found my new hobby.

Watch out! There's a fine line between a hobby and an addiction!
