  • 80, SwirlX, or ScratchX 2.0?

When I worked on the Jeep the other day, I used up all my ScratchX. So right now I have no paint cleaner. Because this is a "transition period" between the old ScratchX and the 2.0, I'm trying to decide on what to get to have around in case I need to clean up some paint. ScratchX is the only paint cleaner I've ever used so for you guys who are more experienced, which of these products would you keep around as your basic paint cleaner? Could I rub some 80 on my car to work out some small stuff much like ScratchX 1.0 or is it a little too aggressive for small stuff? I was thinking of trying SwirlX when it comes out, but I don't want to go through an entire bottle of it just to clean out a couple scratches either. Thanks for the advice.

M205 is your answer. I think it will replace M80 in most cases in the future. ADS will have it available for purchase this coming Wednesday, December 17th.

I gather you are working by hand, right? One possibility is to get yourself some #9. As Mike Phillips explains: "M09 is a very versatile product, you can apply it by machine for light swirl removal, you can apply it firmly by hand for light paint cleaning or you can apply it lightly by hand and it will work pretty much like a pure polish."

But #9 would not be a good choice if you are looking for a scratch remover. If that is what you need, then you need something much stronger. I wouldn't think that M205 would be strong enough either, but perhaps I'm wrong. I got myself a sample of M105 from ADS to use as a hand-applied scratch remover.

Swirls hide in the black molecular depths, only waiting for the right time to emerge and destroy your sanity.

Well I have a DA now but I said hand because my car is pretty new and if I'm washing/QDing/waxing/etc... it and I run across a small little paint issue, I'll probably just bust out a foam pad and rub it out myself. I wouldn't take out the DA for a little imperfection half the size of a dime unless it was deep or something. Make sense?

Thanks, I'll look into #9 and #205 as well than.

M205 by hand will work for light scratches or swirls. For the RIDS you will need M105. M105 should be something you plan to have in your arsenal anyway, that stuff is like magic.

If the M105 leaves a little hazing you can follow up with M205 for a perfect finish.

Actually, if you think you're' going to be into detailing your car and maybe even others then as the new Consumer Paint Care products come out onto the market you're going to want to get one of each so that you'll have some "tools" in your tool chest.
