  • Internet Resources for Detailing Newbs

One of the great benefits to Meguiar's OnLine is that if one hangs out here long enough, asking questions and searching the archives, one really learns a lot about the craft of detailing. I cannot speak too highly of the generosity and patience of Mike Phillips, Mark Kleis, Mat (Murr1525), Rasky, Tim Lingor, and so many others. If one really wants to learn how to detail one's car, MOL is the place to begin.

But there are other resources available on the internet, and I thought it might be useful, especially to my fellow newbs, to collect those I have found most helpful:

    PDF Handbooks:

Detailing World's Dual Action Polisher Guide

    MikeyC's Detailing Handbook
(This is written especially for S2000s, but it contains great stuff applicable to all cars.)

    Articles:

Various car detailing articles by David Bynon

How to Clean the Engine Bay

How to Clean the Wheels and Wheel Well

    Videos:

How to Wash Your Car (ShowCar Style!)

Mike Phillip's on How to Clay Your Car

    Jay Leno video on claying

How to Tape Your Car (Part 1)

How to Tape Your Car (Part 2)

How to Use a D/A Polisher

    Pinnacle Series on Car Care
(These videos feature Pinnacle products, but it's easy to substitute appropriate products from Meguiar's. I really wish Meguiar's would produce a similar set of videos.)

    DVDs:

How to Use the PC for Showcar Results
(This DVD needs to be ordered from ADS. It is worth every penny.)

These are some of the resources I have found helpful. I'm sure there are many others. Are there internet resources you would like me to add to my list?

    Cheers,
    Al

    Handy list.

Don't forget Dave KG's PDF guide for the rotary buffer too. I have the DA and rotary one printed and in a three ring binder.

      Al,

Nice list. Thanks for taking the time to compile.

As for your new signature, I can't stand that far back yet.

Sometimes I can't either! I am forcing myself to adopt the rule just to maintain my sanity!
