  • DA POLISHER Q's

Ok well recently I've been getting into this whole detailing craze due to the fact that the paint on my truck is thoroughly deteriorating de to the fact that I havent washed it. I've bought some zymol products and some BiltHammer cleaners to clean my paint and prep it.

In terms of the polishing side of things I really want to go Meguiars because I started of with this brand and when I'm done I'll probably go back to NX2.0 paste wax.

I'm new at the machine polishing stuff so I was wondering what I was going to require from Meguiar's to make it happen. I believe I need the G110 but I was wondering if a G220 was better, or what was the best that Meguirs offers in this department? In terms of the polishing pads I really have no idea and same goes for the speed glaze and polishing products.

Here's a side pic of my paint job with 2.0 only not even cleaned before pre. I was more newbie back then .

Here are the links for the G100.

Recommended Products - G100a Dual Action Polisher

Using the G-100 to remove swirls with the Professional Line

Each one, teach one... Ferrari Fiorano 355 F1 Spider

The G110 is the newer version with more pwoer, but the basics remain the same. There are a few new pads/products, liek washable pads, but the uses for the finishing and polishng pads remain the same.

      First...

      Awesome Truck!

I prefer old school style trucks myself because they use leaf spring suspensions so it's easier and less expensive to modify them but it's hard to beat the good looks and creature comforts of anything new.

You want the G110, the G220 is for countries that use 220 volt for their electrical system, the G110 is for 110 volt systems.

There's an awesome promotion going on right now, get the G110, a collection of our new washable buffing pads and then hang tight until the new M105 and M205 become available and with this combo you can wheel through the bushes on Saturday and the next weekend restore a showroom new finish all your friends will be jealous of.

Hey thnx for the dvd tip. I was trying to find something like this for visual aid, I always find that videos help out a lot. One problem though is that I'm not able to find it anywhere but this U.k site. Is that the only place they sell it?

Thnx for all your replies guys. From all I've seen I can see that I've made a good choice with Meg's man I cant wait to get my G110 now. Man if only finals week went by faster.

                Re: DA POLISHER Q's

Well guys I just got my 110 from ADS; and well I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. I just can't wait to try all the cool stuff out.
I got the # 4 swirl removal kit which basically saved me from spending around 100 dollars had I bought it direct. I also purchased that DVD and I must say that its worth its weight in gold. It's what I've been looking for for the past few months. I only got to the part where Mike did the Scratch X because of H.W., but I am so happy with the detail involved in the making of that DVD. He goes step by step that I am learning things I didn't even know about hand applications. I've been doing things horribly wrong (except for removing watches everyone knows that's a no no).
One thing that I did get extra though was the 105 compound just because it looks like about the only thing that will cure my hood. Now One question should I use # 80 speed glaze afterwords and then NXT. Or should I hit it with 105 then 83 and then NXT? I would have got 205 but its still not available and damn from what I'm reading it makes ur car shine!!!!!

With a Behemoth this the second thing you want to do and the most important thing you want to do is a Test Spot.

The first thing you want to do is wash and dry the truck and then feel the horizontal surfaces with your clean hand to see if the paint needs claying and if so then clay the paint.

After you get past this it's time to start testing out some product combinations and dial in a recipe that works on your trucks paint.

Meguiar's teaches the philosophy of using the least aggressive product to get the job done, so out of the product you have, first test the M80 Speed Glaze with the yellow polishing pad on the 5.0 Speed Setting working only a small section and after making approximately 4 to 6 passes going in two different directions, wipe off the residue and and inspect the area you've cleaned and polished compared to the adjacent paint.

If it looks good and you're happy with the results you know you can probably repeat this procedure, section-by-section over the entire truck and get the same great results.

IF you test section doesn't meet your standards then you can either try working that section again with the M80 to see if two applications get your truck's paint to where you want it to be or you can try a more aggressive product usually moving from least to most aggressive.

What you want to do is see which product removes the defects best and to your expectations and if needed, then do a second-step polishing process and after that start applying the NXT Tech Wax.

What you don't want to do is to go over the entire truck with a product, wipe off the residue and then inspect only to find you don't like the results and realize you just spent all your time doing a process that isn't working for you. Thus the value of dialing in a successful recipe and process before going over the entire truck.

Dialing in a successful process can take a little time but it can save you time in the long run and it will insure your success.

                    Re: DA POLISHER Q's

Totally agreed. Thank you for the tips I probably would have wasted a lot of time and elbow grease had I not considered doing a test spot. Well I'll get back to you guys when I do this process on my Mark LT.

Sadly due to finals. I will have to consider a pro detailer to get the black one ready for a christmas get together that my parents have to go to. It's in san diego and I'm in LA so I dont want to risk sending it on a two hour drive with a 2 month old coat of hand applied NXT wax. ( I wish I had taken less classes :Cries)

Well yeah I'm considering Superior Shine. Whats your guys take on this?

Truthfully I'm not sweating this too much seeing as how I'd rather start on an older car than a brand new one and risk ruining the paint job. As far as the Mark LT is concerned at least it gets some needed attention on Saturday, it's got a week of neglect and it's starting to show. Thnx again for the help Mike.
