  • Polishing a 350z

Anyone has experience in detailing 350z? Just want to know if they're known to have soft or hard paint. I will be detailing mine very soon and the polishes I have are: M80, M09, M82, M83.

Here's how the swirls on my hood look like:

Would it be considered light swirl?

Yes, I would consider that a light swirl. M80 should take care of it in no time. Actually M82 is even less aggresive than M80 so I might go that route first since the swirls aren't that bad.

In my experience Z paint has been soft and easy to work with. Just remember that every car is different, so be prepared for anything

        These should help:

        Neglected Black 350Z by RaskyR1

        Detailed Nissan 350Z by TxRado

        Black 2003 350Z by Method

Here's one with just using M80 and NXT wax

Megs #80 and NXT by Pats300zx

Looks like your on the right road, start least aggressive and work your way up in a test section. M09 is the least and M83 is your most (the products you have), if it were me, I would try M80, good ol' reliable.

Are you using by hand or machine?

Will take before and after photos when I'm finished to share with MOL!
Just wondering, how come everyone prefers M80 over M09?

#9 can be a touch too mild for many swirls, and #80 is supposed to have the most polishing oils.

Have you used your PC before? There is a great How-to DVD over at ADS by Mike and Richard Lin.

Haven't gotten my hands on the PC yet, so nope. What's ADS?

Looks like a good candidate to try M205

                    Re: Polishing a 350z

Hi guys, I have updated my post with a new question as I am finally going to be doing a "full" polish next weekend.

I've got a question about using the least aggressive compound with the various grades of pads. I have LC 4" pads (orange, blue, white). As Lexus Guy 04 mentioned above to use M82, should I be sticking with M82 for the 3 pads I have, starting with the white polishing pad? Then if that doesn't take out the swirls, I move on to the blue pad, then the orange if blue still doesn't remove the swirls? Below is what I mean:

                    Method #1:
M82: White pad --> Blue pad --> orange pad

                    -- or --

                    Method #2:
                    M82 --> White pad --> M80 --> White pad --> M83 --> White pad

Which steps did you end up doing? Did you remove any of the siwrls last time? Or is this still the last time....

I did remove a little swirls last time, but the whole process was taking too long so I just stopped. I'd appreciate it if the experts could chime in to my newb questions (last post on page 1). I'm going to start this saturday.
