  • Time is Not a Factor!

    I own a pewter colored sierra, so it is a light color. I wax it about once a month and hand wash it every week. In the spring i plan the detail the entire truck. I have a Porter Cable 7424 and Pads from Lake Country: Heavy, medium cutting, polishing, finish, finessing
    I got this for a gift on my recent birthday.
    so i have to use this set up, i cant just waste good pads right?
    so i was wondering what products would just match my pads i use all mirror glaze products less Gold Class car wash.
    Time is not of any concern i am willing to detail my truck for a week if that is what it takes to remove every little "scratch". So what do you think the BEST process to take to get the ultimate results. I am willing to do what it takes to get the job done.

    My currant process is:
    Pinnicale Swirl Remover (part of gift)
    then i use #7
    then #21
    then #26

    is that a good combo what should i do differnt anything is helpful, thanks.

      Best thing on wax is to try it and if you like it then stick with it.

      I think the combo was with M26 then seal that with M21.....I think..... I use them all, M21/M26/M16/NXT 1.0/2.0/Gold Class/Color X. Depends on mood.....

        The first thing you want to do is to test the Pinnacle Swirl Remover with the polishing pad to a small section that you can look down on and inspect the results.

        See if this combination will remove the swirls and scratches to your satisfaction, if it will then use it over the entire car, if it won't then you'll want to get something more aggressive.

        Using more aggressive foam pads with tools that oscillate tends to remove the defects but leave the paint hazy and Newbies to machine polishing working on cars that are expensive, (at least to them), or important, (like this is your pride and joy), tend to PANIC when they see what they've done to their car's finish.

        If the polishing pad and the Pinnacle Swirl Remover isn't getting the job done to your satisfaction then it's your choice, (not our recommendation), to try a more aggressive pad test to a small section and MAKE SURE YOU CAN MAKE ONE SMALL SECTION LOOK GOOD BEFORE GOING OVER THE ENTIRE CAR.

        Another comment based upon what you told us...

        Usually when using a DA Polisher you'll remove all the light defects and the deeper defects will then show up like a sore thumb because now there's no lesser defects surrounding them in essence camouflaging them.

        We call these RIDS

        Random Isolated Deeper Scratches

        If this is a daily driver then you're usually better off to remove the light defects and live with the RIDS because removing RIDS is more complicated than just buffing more and more with the same pads and products and removing RIDS means removing more and more of your precious clear layer of paint and if the car is in fact a daily driver you want all the paint you can have on the car, (not on the pad because you've removed it), and again... if this is a daily driver over time you're going to get more swirls and scratches and you can't repeat this process into infinity.

        Your choice of course, just some insights to maybe help you decide upon how far you want to go...

        Read and study the below article before starting and then start with just a test spot.

          Thanks Mike, Well i did a test spot on my dads dark blue dakota full of scratchs and swirls, i had to use the pinnical product and the orange pad to get results i was happy with and i did notice some marging on the finish
          can this be takin out with Mirror Glaze Swirl remover 2.0
          And Which will I apply to the surface first #21 or #16
          And does #26 and NXT bond together?
