I have had great success with Meguiars "Mirror Glaze 2" Professional Fine-Cut Cleaner.
I actually use it with a 30 year old 1,800 RPM buffer.
My clear coat was in bad shape before I started.
While buffing I used Meguiars Ultimate Detailer spray to keep the surface lubricated so I didn't leave swirl marks.

Look Ma, no swirl marks!

Here's an after Mirror Glaze picture. It turned my black hood into a mirror.

2 hours only?? man I wash my car in 2 hours. It might take 10-12 hours to buff out a complete car. good luck with your new car.

Definitely no paint correction going on there. Although it is possible to do it by hand, I don't know of any pros that would do an entire car that way.

Your best bet is to find a true professional detailer. As you've found, there's lots of people that call themselves "pro detailers" that are far from it.

Hopefully someone in the NY/NJ area on the forum here will be able to direct you to a qualified detailer.

Body shops are often times mediocre at best with the final detailing of the paint - look around on this forum and you'll find lots of examples of poorly finished cars directly from the paint shop.

Hopefully someone on this forum can chime in and recommend someone in your area with the proper skills to correct your paint.

I doubt he did any "Paint Correction" Looks like he took a pad by hand and applied lots of extra pressure to the paint surface to remove defects... At this point being that its cold out, I would much rather someone point to a Pro in my Area...

I am might even look into local car restoration shops if there are even any here.

Sorry, for all of the follow up posts, this is getting ridiculous

You mentioned the detailer from today spent 2 hrs on your car "detailing" it. For an external only paint correction, I'm easily into 4 hours of work and very likely 6 or 8 for a 2 or 3 stage buff out. Paint correction on black is usually at least 2 or 3 passes with the buffer.

It doesn't seem very likely that he did any true paint correction.

Also, if the body shop applied glaze, then the swirls may or may not be gone in that area. Glaze has a filling effect to hide swirls, at least temporarily.

Well, let's start at the top. What is the year, make, and model of the car in question? Do you have any pictures on sunlight that you can post?

Are you interested in detailing enough to buy the equipment (DA Polisher, rotary buffer, compounds, polishes, and wax etc)?

If you are simply looking for a seasoned professional, I'm sure someone on this board could direct you to a competent detailer.

Rest assured, you definitely can achieve a swirl free finish with Meguiar's products in the hands of an experienced pro. I don't consider myself nearly as experienced as many pros on this forum, but here's a few examples of my work on black cars that were most likely in worse shape than yours:

You won't have to wet sand the entire car. Possibly in some areas, but a good detailer will only wetsand as a very last resort.

If you are interested in detailing enough to buy the equipment and learn how to use it, then you've come to the right place. If you have the time and interest I'd highly recommend investing in a G110 DA polisher and some meguiar's polishes and pads to keep that black car looking great!

Okay.. I really feel disappointed and discouraged.. I have been through world war 3 and back with this car..

To make a long story short, I have a the car for four to five months. I have brought to countless detailers "The Best" (yeah right), to only see the car have more swirls marks then before..

11/26/08 -

Get out of bed, a completely Sleepless night, bring the car to another "PRO" at 7:30am.. I am excited, this guy seemed to know what he was doing.. Now in conjunction with Swirls, it rained here last week and I now have what I believe to be are Water Spots.. "Yea NP John, I got it.";

Get a call at 9:30am "car is almost ready, but I can't get those Spots out I have never seen anything like this before, dont know what it is they won't budge".

I go look at the car and I see even more swirls, water spots from hell (they are faint, cloudy looking, no etching though/outline), and I am totally pissed. He says "I got a guy in queens".. So now again no sleep yet, drive to queens to see the body shop owner...

At the bodyShop, same thing "Those water spots are like nothing I have seen, Clear coat might be damaged" I personally dont think so, but whatever. Ok so Now I am have a heart attack. Car is brand new. He says lets try 2500 grit to wet sand.. He wet sands, Compounds with buffer, Polish, glaze, wax on test area. It all came out.. Swirls, Spots, Perfect..

My question is this, do I really need to get the whole car wet sanded?? The swirls aren't terriblly deep, and those spots are faint.. What in gods name do I do? I really need guidance. I am willing to bring it to a shop in the NEw York Area that can this car to look right... Swirl Free, Spot Free. Please Help.

Note: I have tried to Cleaner Wax, Clay Bar, Polish, Swirl Remover, Straight wax... All by hand using Foam Pad. Maybe I didn't work it in well enough (Four applications of swirl remover).. I ordered ScratchX.
