  • M83 in Sydney, Australia

    Hi guys,

I'm ordering in the G220, my previous mission to remove swirls/webs from my BMW by hand proved to be most unsuccessful , must be some tough clear coat even after applying it 3-4 times using all methods it done little to nothing.

I was wondering if any1 knows of a supplier for the M83 in Sydney, Australia. I can find the M80 but no 83 anywhere to be seen

    Thanks

    Paolo.

We don't get M83 here, apparently not enough demand. What we can get is D151 Paint Reconditioning Creme and M105 Ultra Cut Compound which are very capable at removing swirls my hand or machine.
    Cheers.

M105 would do a far superior job with less effort than M83 by hand. I suggest picking some of that up, as M83 really does best by DA or rotary in my personal experience (Not to say it won't work by hand, but M105 is like magic in a bottle when it comes to hand work).

Go for the M105, current version is for rotary buffer and/or by hand but a lot of people have good luck when using it with the DA polisher.

New version of M105 has been reformulated for use with the DA Polisher but you'll have to wait until it starts shipping to Australia.

Well i'm waiting patiently to order the new G220 - apparently all stores in AUS are currently out of stock or are awaiting a Ver 2.0 of the model..??? i'm not to sure what the deal is with that.

So as i'll be waiting anyway until the DA arrives, i won't be working on the cobwebs/swirls by hand anymore so i would like to take the meguiars approach by using the least abrasive method first. What would be my best option in terms of approach with the DA.? should i wait for the new line to come in and take advantage of the new technology? or go with one of the current products?

Also i'm not sure if we have the offer here where we get a polishing pad or 2 included when we purchase the G220, i think the 8006 polishing pad would be the best one to use in my case.?

I've included 2 images thanks guys..

Have not heard anything about any new version 2.0.

The new products are awesome but the question is can you wait till they get to your shore?

What do you currently have available to you?

M80 and M83 have been de-swirling paint for decades and are both proven winners.

              Re: M83 in Sydney, Australia

Perhaps the 1st batch we got sent here still had the U.S. AC plugs due to low demand shipped over here, therefore we needed to use a third party adapter - but i think the batch we are waiting upon now are equipped ready-made with the AUS type AC plugs..??? Sorry Mike i guess this is all speculation since i'm not a distributor or anything.

I believe we have the M80 Available for purchase here locally, also the M105 but no M83.

I guess it's also a waiting game because we are not sure when the new batch of G220's will be arriving.

From the images below with your expertise and experience what would you recommend? I won't try it by hand anymore it took me a whole Saturday to do everything from beginning to end 2 weeks ago and the results as i mentioned were not too noticeable.

You might need to, you might not. Check your work and see.

I might suggest ScratchX afterword as well as another option, but often it isn't needed.

What exactly should i be looking for if i was to need either the M80 or the ScratchX..? like how would i know if i needed it.?

I will be using the G220 for this entire process is it ok to use all those products with the DA or is it better by hand.? The last time i attempted it all by hand i got no-where

Basically just decide for yourself if the paint looks clear, and swirl free enough for YOUR taste. Sometimes the M105 will work flawlessly on some paints, and occasionally it *may* need something gentle to follow up. It's up to the paint, and your expectations.

That sounds fair enough, i guess i will see when the jobs done...

Will the M105 and ScratchX be safe to use on the DA(G220)..? Thanks and sorry for all the questions..

Wow talk about confusion..!! I'm reading up on all the new 2009 products and the results they seem to be having with the meguiars team.. Pretty good i must say

I think i'm better off waiting it out and using the new products with the new Super Micro Abrasive Technology because i'm new i might aswell learn the new method..

I think i'll go with the M105/M205 combo with the DA.

After showing hundreds of people how to use ScratchX by hand to remove swirls and scratches out of a clear coat finish I can tell you first hand, (no pun intended ), that while ScratchX does work and is/was one of the only real options available that didn't leave more scratches in the paint than it removed, it was still very technique-dependent. Most people after watching how to correctly use ScratchX by hand to remove swirls and scratches would make this comment...

"That's not how I was using it"

Usually, most people would apply it and gently spread it around and then wipe it off thinking this would remove small particles of paint. Not going to happen.

The good news is our new ScratchX 2.0 and Ultimate Compound make it a zillion times easier to remove defects with less work and even less skill.

The new version of M105, (not shipping yet), is DA compatible. The current version and the new 2.0 version of ScratchX are both DA compatible.

Hang in there until you can get the new product that use our new technology as it will make it so much easier for you to get professional results.

                              Re: M83 in Sydney, Australia

I just been on the phone with the Meguiars distributors here in Sydney, AUS. Apparently they are not planning on shipping the new M205 formula here, and they advise me that all new products come in on July of every year for us.

The G220 will arrive 2nd week of December, now this puts all my plans down the drain... i don't think i can manage waiting that long lol.. i'm keen to get results asap. We have the old ScratchX, the M80, the old M105 - i guess i'm gona have to make do with what i got available.

This forum has been a great help and hopefully i succeed in getting some classy results with this challenge of mine.
