Nuclear, M83 is a cleaner polish. It is usually used in conjunction with M80 to remove swirls and scratches and to prepare the surface for a sealant or wax.

The word sealant is commonly used in the detailing world to refer to a 100% synthetic protectants, as opposed to waxes, which are composed of natural and often synthetic ingredients. Synthetic sealants would include NXT, M21, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant, Duragloss 105, Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze, etc. Waxes would include M26, M16, Deep Crystal Carnauba, Gold Class Car Wax, Pinnacle Souveran, the Dodo Juice products, and a host of others.

At the popular consumer-level, however, the word wax is commonly used to refer to any auto paint protectant. NXT, for example, is marketed as a wax, as are some other synthetic sealants. All of this just goes to show that the meaning of a word is determined by usage, not by prescriptive word mavens.
