Re: What's the most expensive wax you've used?

This would be a good time to mention that I saw Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid wax at Publin in Nashville, TN for $8.49 last week. I didn't even know that Publix carried car wax, but they do.

For those who are not in the Southeast, Publix is a grocery store chain started in FL. There are stores across the south, still kinda new to Tennessee.

      In Meguiar's terminology,

Cleaning means removing defects like swirls, scratches, etchings, stains and oxidation, it doesn't mean to wash the car. (rest of article can be found in the link below)

The words Clean and Cleaning as defined by Meguiar's terminology

And when it comes to the cleaning step or the defect removal step, the human hand cannot outperform the machine...

      Just ask these guys...

That said, with the introduction of these guys... the human hand can do a pretty darn good job!

The biggest difference between LSP is between the ears not in the product.

Re: What's the most expensive wax you've used?

During the past few months, I have bought and used some of the most "popular" paint polishes and waxes available (Menzerna, Clearkote, Victoria, CG, Collinite, and Optimum)

When it comes to paint protectants, there are three different categories:
Easiest to apply / remove, best looks, and durability.

The application and removal can be based on the product, but the temperature and humidity can also make a difference.

The looks are up to your judgement.

The durability is dependent on the environment. Is is garaged? How often is it driven? Is the rain acidic?

When it comes to paint polishes, it is nearly impossible to accurately compare each one. Why? Each manufacturer has their own scale of aggressiveness. And, each product is meant to finish to a certain level.

In the end, I have concluded that it is nearly impossible to determine the "best" wax and paint polish.

I am not loyal to any one brand, so I use whatever works best for me.

              Good insights...

When I detailed full time for money, I used what gave me consistent results... there were 2 criteria that determined which products to use and these were,

              No budget for mistakes
The product has to work safely every time assuming it's used correctly and the right product is chosen for the job. The last thing I want to do is buy someone else a paint job, heck.. I usually have a project of my own in the wings that needs a paint job so if any paint job is getting paid for it's going to be mine, not someone else's car thus whatever I use has to have a proven history of not making a mistake or a problem.

Not time to do a job twice
My average for a paint only "Complete", that is the paint is completely buffed out starting with compounding using a rotary buffer and then worked all the way through the most complete process to achieve maximum results. This in the past has taken an average of between 12 to 14 hours and sometimes longer depending upon the car. When a paint polishing process takes this long from start to finish the results have to be perfect after the final wipe is made because there's no time to do it over again.

On both counts, Meguiar's has never let me or my customer's down.

Their's one more criteria that's important to me and that's a "Complete System", that is people are different, some detailers are comfortable mixing product lines, that is to use one companies compound, another company's polish and yet another company's wax or paint sealant. I'm not like that, I like to use a product line that offers a complete system because by staying inside a single product line there is Synergistic Chemical Compatibility.

(SCC for you AJ's i.e. Acronym Junkies, that's AJ's for you extreme Acronym Junkies )

That is the chemist best knows how to make all the follow-up products in a system because they formulated the initial use or first step products in the system.

Besides chemicals, often times wet-sanding is necessary and for the longest time the best finishing paper on the market was/is the Nikken Finishing Papers and they are a part of Meguiar's "System" approach to polishing paint because they give you control over the abrading process which then gives you control over the compounding process.

So unlike most brands in the retail market and all the brands and even boutique product in the Cyberworld, Meguiar's is one of the only companies that offers a complete system starting with a sand paper. Who else can you say this about? 3M comes to mind...

That's just my own reasons... but they've been tried and true now for over 20 years...

Just looked at the Zymol Solaris on their website...you guys better jump on it, there's only 5 more available!!! Its not every day you can say the wax on your car is worth 2x the car itself!

Personally, NXT 2.0 is the most expensive I've used.

Re: What's the most expensive wax you've used?

                  It's all in the prep.

I polished out a Tahoe last week with #105 and then with #80. I had numerous people come by and ask me what "wax" I used on it. LOL!

I used Fuzion and NXT 2.0 side by on the hood. I could not tell them apart.

To me, the last step is for protection and some gloss ehancement.........that's all. True depth comes from correcting the defect that are refracting light instead of reflecting the light.

Mike, I agree with your above post.
I know how each Meguiar's product will work each and every time and in every situation. This lets me make the right decision to maximize my time.

Ditto. Never had the desire to spend that much on wax in the first place. I can think of MANY things to spend my money on than $100+ wax. I won't buy Souveran again either. I can achieve equal results with cheaper waxes.

Most expensive wax Ive used would have to be #16.. Paid $30 shipped to my door and I didnt even wax my whole Jeep, just wanted to try it out on my hood. Dont want to use it all up since its hard to find(and $$), even if it would take me years to use it all!

What??? You're gonna have to use that #16 more often!

All of the daily drivers in the family get a coat of #16 before every winter.

That being said, I've used the tin on atleast twenty cars and it's still 80% full.

Keep hearing about #16 but still have no idea why its not sold here in the USA. And what make this wax so special? All the pictures I seen here are a paste type too.

M1611 (M16, #16, etc) was only available in paste form.

I really like the gloss and durability. Plus, one tin goes a long way.
