  • Idea for a new OCD detail involving new products (consumer line)

For some pretty intensive paint work: Numerous swirls
    Wash
    Clay
    Paint Cleaner
    Ultimate Compound
    ScratchX
    SwirlX
    Deep Crystal Polish
    NXT Wax

What does everybody think about this? I am wanting to try this on my truck when the products start rolling out.

I'll be interested to see what the brethren say, but two questions come to mind:

    (1) If one judges it necessary to use Ultimate Compound on one's car, will it be necessary or beneficial to use a Paint Cleaner (DC1, I presume)? The latter seems redundant and unnecessary as a preliminary step.

    (2) Does one typically need to follow Ultimate Compound with a less aggressive product, e.g., SwirlX, in order to finish off the paint or may one go directly from UC to pure polish or LSP?

That paint cleaner might be a little out of order.....

I agree... Not necessary and way too much extra work.

I was going to say the same thing but I cannot suggest what product to remove...
            Maybe ultimate compound?

Mujjuman, if you keep either Ultimate Compound or SwirlX, then DC1 (paint cleaner) becomes superfluous, since both UC and SX are also paint cleaners. Ultimate Compound and ScratchX may also be unnecessary, if the paint defects to be removed do not require either of these two polishes. After washing and claying, I would think one would begin with SwirlX. If that works, then one would immediately go to pure polish and wax.

Of course, I am talking as if I really knew what I was talking about, when of course I do not. I'm just relying on what I have read here on MOL. I'm sure one of the real MOL detailers will correct me if I'm in left field.

              Cheers,

Based on what I have read about the new products and their micro abrasive technology. It would only seem necessary to use the least aggressive product first. Then, to an LSP.

If the first cleaner did not yield the results I guess you would progress to the next product.

As is usually advised a test spot to verify procedure.

Re: Idea for a new OCD detail involving new products (consumer line)

I was thinking something like this:
                  Wash
                  Clay
                  Ultimate Compound (on entire car)
                  M26
                  NXT Wax

                  OR

                  Wash
                  Clay
                  Ultimate Compound (in small areas)
                  D151
                  NXT

Are you planning to use the Ultimate Compound on the entire car? If not, D151 would be something worth looking into. It has good cut potential and provides a nice finish for NXT. Are planning to buy new products or are the products you listed above what you have on hand? Feel free to add comments, I just like D151 a lot and look for places to use it.
