  • What am i doing wrong?

Ok, as you can see in my previous thread (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28397) i managed to remove all swirls/scratches/marring out of my paint. Wax had a 72 hour cure time before i attempted washing it and after drying with a leaf blower i see that i managed to add some scratches back in to the paint. I can only see them a halogen light but it erks me to know that after one washing i managed to add them back. Now don't get me wrong, there not bad but they're there. I have no pics as I'm not even real sure if they would show up in a pic.

Heres my washing method/supplies i used.

    Two buckets
    Two Grit Guards
    Brand new lambs wool mit
    Gold Class wash
Flip mit and rinse in 2nd bucket often
    Dryed with leaf blower

    Any suggestions?

Heres the blower I'm using http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28397

It does a good job of removing all the water from the paint so i use no other method.

Not swirls or rids... just very light surface scratches that are only noticeable under the halogen lamps. It's not like anyone else will notice them or anything, just gets to me because i know the finish WAS flawless and now it's not. If it does this each time i wash it then I'll be back at step 1 within a couple of weeks.

Are you 100% positive you got all the scratches out of every inch of paint before washing? Even at that some paints are very sensitive and will scratch by touching it.

Yes, as you can see in these 50/50 shots, all the scratches are removed.

Nothing against your judgement but were you sure that there were no scratches before the wash? Also was your water to soap ratio correct 1 oz per gal? Otherwise I could not figure out how that would happen.

No offense taken.... but yes, I'm sure these scratches were not there before and i also measure out my car wash. 4.5oz for my almost full 5 gallon bucket.

I feel that I'm doing everything exactly as i should... guess it's just the nature of the toyo paint.

my caddi is like this. after a solid polish and wax the paint looks great. in the sun there are zero scratches, under the flourecent lights, i can see many fine scratches that look to be "under the paint" i have come to live with them! at least until i can try some ultimate compound.

See that's the thing, i did remove all of them with polishing. First washing afterwards and i can see that I put some back. There from my washing because there long and horizontal, the exact direction i moved my wash mit. Am I not suppose to wash my truck...

It has been said that some paints will swirl if you look at them funny... Hopefully that isnt the case with yours.

Just edited two of your posts, please remember our forum rules which we strictly enforce.

As for your paint, if you can document how easily it scratches even when washing it with high quality products and good technique then take this information to Toyota and demand your money back or force them to show you how you can wash the car without scratching the paint and put the responsibility for the quality of their choice back on them.

We have so many people that come to this forum frustrated with how hard clear coat paints are to work on and sometimes we remind them that this is the fault of the car manufactures for not asking the paint manufactures for paints that the average person can work on without difficulty or frustration.

Until enough people start making some noise, none of the car manufactures are going to do anything about it.

Go to the root cause of the problem.
