Just a quick question: how would you restore or what could you do or use to preven damage to the rocker cover under the bonnet?

Rocker covers are make from stamped steel and painted.
Some are aluminum some are carbon fiber some are a type of plastic you don't say what you are working on.

If it is unpainted aluminum Engine Brite made by Gunk corporation works well or a good APC will clean it.
If you want it to really shine you will need to buff it with a metal polish not worth it unless it is a show car.Black BartComment
