  • Another challenge for the Meguiars Team..?

    Hi guys,

I'm at it again with another challenge (for myself more than likely).. I have a problem with the plastic covering for my Headlights on a BMW 323ci.. It's pretty much the only cover between the globe and the outside world.

The plastic seams to be "cracking" it's not scratched but more along the lines of "dried out"..? Well i posted some photos below so you know what im talking about.

Ok, well hopefully you can see what i mean from them.

Any assistance is much much appreciated, i've read about your Plastic products but i'm not sure if they would be of much with this kinda problem.

    Thanks in advanced.

Plastic looks like its breaking down. Id have to say that is going to require a replacement lamp. You could try wet sanding and buffing them, but I have a feeling it will not do much.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

Besides replacing them you could always trade it in for a classic BMW with glass headlights and avoid any future problems with plastic headlights.

Seriously, if you want perfection then purchase some new ones and if they're too expensive then apply some PlastX and live with the defects.

Something can't be fixed by any company's products.

Good luck, maybe post back here what replacements cost, it's alway interesting to see just how expensive headlights have become with new cars.

I think my neighbor has a similar problem too.

I know exactly what you mean, one of my headlights has done the same thing. I've tried Plastx without any difference. It looks like little cracks all over the cover. My other headlight cover is in perfect conditions. Going to have to live with it as a replacement is going to cost me $900
I really have no idea what caused this to happen other than being a defective light as I have always cleaned and waxed the plastic.

yeh i sort of imagined PlastX wouldn't work in a case like this since it's to do more with fine scratches or dull plastic.. if i'm not mistaken the Headlight damage (the drying/cracking) seems to be coming from the inside of the covers, so unfortunately it's not something thats easily protected from the outside by any product - as you mentioned cleaning and waxing the plastic. Moisteriser for plastic hmm now theres an idea lol :P
