Charles is correct you should NEVER attempt to do any sanding until you have cleaned the surface.
Dupont makes a product called FIRST KLEEN this is what body shops use.

As to worrying about what is on you paint that is not a problem unless you take your car to a body shop that don't know what they are doing he will clean before doing anything to it.

The very first thing that is done is wipe it good with a product like first kleen.

Another reason for this is to keep any ingredient that could cause surface tension trapped in a disposable cloth you throw away into an enclosed container not turn it into sanding dust that can contaminate a shop.

We've been doing our best to educate people on this for years now. From the fear posts posted over the years it's as though some people think that the people in the body shop industry don't know that cars get waxed over the course of their service life. The problem is not just silicone, it's ANYTHING that can cause surface tension, that is any ingredient of any product that lands on the paint that could cause pant to not want to stick to the surface.

I'm sure you are aware of it but like everything else their have been Improvements in products used and like I said in earlier post the painter would have to be really incompetent to not thoroughly clean before attempting to do anything to the paint.

The products used will remove any wax or sealant or whatever you may have on the vehicle.
You would be amazed at how fast a wax can be removed with something like First Kleen

I was just agreeing with you and pointing out that for some reason, a lot of people get the idea that prepping a car is a mystery in body shops... part of the reason there's so much unfounded fear surrounding silicone. (But not the only reason).

Think I wrote an article about his about 4 years ago, hang on...

Mike that is a very good write up and factual.
I was not disagreeing with you only supporting what you were saying.
