  • First Detail w/G110

Just completed my first detail with my recently purchased G110. Took me about 9 hours.
    1. Gold Class wash
    2. Clay
    3. #80 w/8006
    4. NXT 2.0 w/9006
Sorry for the poor picture quality. Had to finish up inside at night (raining outside) and don't have good lighting in my garage. Couldn't get any good pics of the swirl marks after, but, believe me, they were greatly reduced. (I have a Brinkmann, but couldn't figure out how to hold it and take a good pic at the same time...)

Tried ColorX with an 8006 pad first and while it did remove some of the swirls, it wasn't as effective as the #80 (did not see any marring).

    Before swirl marks

    After

I was particularly impressed with how easily the NXT went on and came off, even on a cold (40's), damp day. I had been using #21, but think I might actually prefer NXT, provided the durability is there.

Great products, great results. Thanks Mequiar's.

      Nice work!

Machine polishing enables you do as good as work and often times even better work than your local detail shops because you're using better product and you care about work.

Nice shine, looks great! That's the same combo of products I use, except I finish up with #26 instead of NXT.

                  Question:

The 8006 and 9006 pads ... what are they comparable with in the Lake Country product line (orange, yellow, white or black)? I just got in my #80 and plan on detailing my truck this weekend. All my pads are awaiting but I'm not sure which one(s) to use.

My guess is the white and/or black as they are the softest.

                  Many thanks ...

I like #26, too. I normally use it for my spring detail. I typically use #21 for the winter, but thought NXT 2.0 with it's durability/protection and hydrophobic ability might be worth a shot. I was very impressed with the gloss and depth, and am eager to see how it holds up through the winter months.

                    Thanks for the comments.

The car looks great! I love how easy NXT 2.0 is to use also.

dud... give #80 a try with the white pad. That's pretty close to 8006.

Thanks BlueZero, I will do that.

It appears that the concensus is that #80 is the best "all around" product for people who do not want to go through multiple steps before applying a final wax/polish. There seems to be a difference of opinion as to what the "best" overall final wax/polish product should be.

It was my first time with a PC type DA.

I have a 6" orbital polisher that I bought at Sear's about 1 year ago. It worked OK for applying wax/sealant, but with two black cars, both daily drivers, I needed something that had more power for removing swirls and blemishes.

I found the G110 to be quite easy to use. The backing plate is easy to attach. The machine weighs only about 5.5 lb. and the optional handle (which I used) helps provide good control, especially on the vertical surfaces. The variable speed settings allow you to optimize the polisher’s performance for the product you are using – lower settings for waxes/sealants, higher settings for cleaners/polishes.

Overall, a great tool. Very easy to use, even if you have no previous polishing machine experience. You can also purchase an instructional DVD if you feel the need. Would recommend you read this thread prior to using it.
