  • should I use Scratch X on this (pics inside)...

    Hi everyone,

I am new to both detailing and this forum. I noticed this scuff on my bumper this morning. I don't know how it got there. It feels smooth and continuous with the rest of the bumper, and there are no indentations. I tried rubbing it off by hand but it is not coming off. Someone suggested Scratch X but I am not sure if it is the right product to use for this. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    It wont hurt to try.

If it is paint transfer from something else, the ScrathX could get it off.

Goo Gone will get it right off. I had something similar.

If you have some Cleaner/Wax that might work. Remember, always try the least agressive method first. With the Cleaner/Wax you might be done in one step. GC Cleaner would be a possibility. ScratchX would be good as well.
If you decide to go the GC Cleaner or ScratchX route... remember to wax when you are done.

I would also try out ScratchX and follow with a wax of preference

I've cleaned the exact same kind of scuff of a Chrysler 300C bumper using a very simple cheap mircofiber round pad from Autozone. It took just a couple passes, real simple. It worked so well, waxing wasn't even necessary, even though it is okay to do so. Just saying....

I would give the scratch-x a go. Probably need a couple of passes. Then your wax.

                Morning,

ScratchX will do it, but it may take a while. I normally use Meguiar's M04 Heavy Cut Cleaner and a piece of terry cloth to remove paint transfer. The type of abrasive that is in M04 makes short work of paint transfer! Follow with ScratchX to remove any hazing caused by the M04 and top with your favorite LSP, like NXT or M21 etc...

This is a tried and true method for removing paint transfer as has been posted here for years, at the same time multiple applications of ScratchX should do the job and this will keep you from purchasing a bottle of M04 Heavy Cut Cleaner which is a "Rotary Buffer Only" product.

You will also have to locate a PBE store to find M04 or order online whereas ScratchX can be found easily at just about any auto parts store or stores like Target and Wal-Mart.

Also, if you're not in a hurry to remove this then check out the forum on November 4th for some of the really cool new products being introduced for 2009

Thanks everyone for your input! I removed the scuff with WD40. Once I sprayed it on and left it for a couple of minutes, it wiped off like it was melted chocolate. There were no remaining scratches/scuffs/dents.

That great that you did not have to use scratchx. Great thinking.

You should still clean the area and apply some wax.
