  • Getting no where with a 2008 Corvette

    Hey guys...

Have a 2008 Corvette in the garage right now, perfect paint some scratches here and there and slight hazing over the entire car. I am doing just a 1 step but D151 isn't doing anything by DA and I really don't feel comfortable using a rotary on this car.

Whats your advice, maybe just a cleaner polish by hand to remove hazing and let the scratches be?

    Hi Ryan,

I'm not going to presume to give you advice, but what about the cleaner polish to remove the hazing and 105 by hand or DA to remove the scratches?

Yea I probably could just go with M105 then D151 but he wanted a 1 step and I need to be done by 2pm. I actually stepped the speed up to the unmentionable speed (6) on the G110 and kept D151 and the W8006 and it's doing pretty good so far.

      I'll keep you guys updated.

      Thanks for the advice Mike!

I couldn't get the grasp of 95 so I went with M105 on a DA and it's going really well. I wish I felt more comfortable with the rotary to use it on this car but I don't have the budget to repaint a Corvette.

The interior of this thing is soaking up dressing like crazy, I've done 3 applications of Natural Shine and it's still soaking in.

Your post reminds me of something.
How many of you know that the paint on a new Corvette ZR1 cost $65000.00 and that is just the cost of the paint only not for applying it.
I got it wrong it is $65000.00 per gallon

$103,000 car. You're trying to tell us that the paint costs 65% of that price? Doubtful. Take off a zero, and it would be a little more believable, but no way a gallon costs $65k.

Sorry Ryan, but I somehow totally missed this thread until a few minutes ago.

I hope you got it all sorted out.

As for the rotary, trust me, just pick it up and starting using it. For an experienced detailer like yourself you will figure it out very quickly. (You took the advanced class, right?)

I've used the rotary on several cars but mainly family members and a couple cars that I know the owners very well. And none of the cars were as new, nice or expensive as the Corvette.

                  Pictures in a few minutes!

Thanks Nick...I am getting more and more comfortable with it, just can't put my self to using it on some cars.

                        I'll get to it eventually.

The cost of the $6500 a gallon paint that is being referenced in this post is not for paint that covers the car but the "clear coat" (I think that’s what they put on top of the carbon fiber) that GM lays over the exposed carbon fiber that is on the roof and some other parts of the car. The actual cost of the paint is $2k per gallon. Here is a article on the car and paint.fficeffice" />
