Holograms

I really didn't know what holograms are until I bought a black truck that had been "detailed" by the dealership. Now I have some work to do.

I have the G-110 and lots of Meguiar products. Would #80 be the best polish to start with? I also have #9 and #83. The paint is in very good condition, so I don't think #83 is necessary.

Do a test spot/panel with #80 first. Then move up to #83 if needed.

I have used #80 on a dark blue vehicle with holograms and had very good luck removing them - if I remember right I did two applications of #80 but it worked and worked well. Meguiars always says start with the least aggressive as suggested above by Murr.

Yet another horror story... just the other day ago we posted that there are more horror stories about cars and trucks swirled out by dealerships than their are success or happy stories and here's another example.

This is why so many car owners out of frustration make the decision to take ownership of their car's appearance maintenance versus trusting the dealership where they bought the car to do the job right.

Sad as it is, that's the norm for the car dealership industry. There has to be some dealerships that have qualified, trained, experienced and hopefully rewarded detailers working for them but they're the exception, not the rule.


You've been a member of this forum for some time and have taken ownership of the maintenance on your Polo Green Vette, so just use the skills and experience you've already gained together with the philosophy of,

"Use the least aggressive product to get the job done"

And of course, do a Test Spot first and work on a recipe that guarantees show car results before going over the entire truck.

Yes, I have been detailing our Corvette and `56 Chevy with great success, but it sure helps to check in here to re-learn and tap the knowledge of the best detailers. Your advice helped me bring old, neglected, oxidized paint back to life on a `63 Nova. The greatly improved appearance of that paint helped us sell that car.

Sad to say, you are 100% correct about dealership detailers. It's all about speed not quality. They seem to take (usually) a young man with no experience, hand him a rotary and expect the customer not to notice.

I think I'm actually going to enjoy detailing this black truck!

My friend bought a black 1998 200sx last week with perfect hologramming on the hood.

A standard pass with my PC and #80 did the trick. Not surprisingly PC + 80 made the 10-year old car look practically brand new.

I too enjoy detailing black the best!!
