  • ?? on agressiveness...

when working w/ m80 & m83. start off using m80 w/ yellow foam pad (8207). if that product isn't working do i... A) move up to m83 w/ a yellow pad?.. or B) stick w/ m80 and move up to a cutting pad like 7207 (which can be used w/ a DA)? this is in regard to using the g110.

I would probably move up to 83 on the yellow W-8006 pad before trying the W-7006 burgandy pad.

this is in regard to using the G110.
That's kind of an either/or question, where you can either use the cutting pad with the M80 or use the M83 with the polishing pad.

As long as the cutting pad is the new W7207 foam cutting pad and not our W-7006 foam cutting pad as the foam used for the W-7006 is too aggressive for most clear coat paints.

M80 is definitely a lot easier to work with so that's the direction I would try to go, M80 with our new 7" foam cutting pad which is okay for use with a DA Polisher.

Do you have one of our new foam cutting pads?

Tips & Techniques for using the G110, G100, G220 and the PC Dual Action Polisher

          Most common mistakes are,

Trying to tackle to large of a section when removing swirls
          Too low a speed setting
          Not enough pressure
          Moving the polisher too fast

Note: Swirls are removed best when the pad is rotating over the surface, not just vibrating on it.

mike, after attending one of your thursday night classes (Oct 2), i did manage to use m80 w/ the new 2.0 cutting pad on the g110. i was pretty impressed w/ the ability it did to remove the swirls on my white gmc sierra. so that night, i ordered a couple 2.0 cutting pads w/ a couple bottles of m80 & m83.

the phrase meguiars preach "use the least aggressive..." had me wondering about my original question.

after working my technique at your thursday night class, i followed all the steps you state. it seems i'm able to remove a fair decent amount of swirls w/ m80 and the yellow foam pad, but when switched to the 2.0 cutting pad, i was able to make the finish how i want it to be. i did happen to try m83 w/ the yellow pad and the results where quite the same w/ m80 and the 8207.... does that make sense?

I tried to answer this but probably didn't add enough words, let me try again... Here's what I wrote,

Allow me to add a few more words...

That's kind of an either/or question, where you can either use the cutting pad with the M80 or use the M83 with the polishing pad.

The M80 is less aggressive than the M83 while the W-7207 Foam Cutting pad is more aggressive than the W-8006 or W-8287 Polishing pads.

So at some level using the M80/cutting pad combo compared to using M83/ polishing pad comb is probably pretty close to having similar abrading ability with the edge going to M80 as it's oiler and will give you more play time and easier wipe-off.

Using M83 with the new foam cutting pad would be the next level of aggressiveness over the M80/W-7207 Foam Cutting pad.

              Does that make sense?
