  • I feel I'm making scratches...

Hmm. About a week ago I noticed a scratch on the hood of my brand new black Civic but I figured it wasn't a big deal since it was just a freak thing or something. Now I just noticed 1-2 more. They aren't typical "swirl" scratches; they seem a little deeper. I think because my paint is black it makes it much more visible too.

But I'm wondering what I did to cause it (if it was me). I'm thinking maybe I'm not QDing right or something. I'm very hesitant to QD because I feel that I'm probably creating scratches. I've QD'd the hood the most and that's where these scratches are. I'm just using Last Touch and a clean MF towel but I don't know, I feel I'm making scratches. I guess I'll wait till I attend Meguiar's Garage before doing any more QDing. What do you guys think they are from? I've included a picture but with the lighting tonight it was very difficult to get a good shot of the scratch.

Those scratches look way too deep in that picture to be caused by QD'ing your car with a clean microfiber. I just can't see it. I've used a QD/Spray Wax hundreds of times and have never seen that before. It has to be from something else.

In my *personal* opinion that looks deeper than a light marring from QDing or washing, but it's very difficult to say from the picture.

Also, a single itty-bitty rock or pebble in your towel or on your car when you QD can cause something like that in a split second... you have to be sure your surface is especially clean before busting out the QD and microfiber. Sometimes it is better to play it safe and do a full wash.

are they really scratchs or could they possibly be wax residue that is caked on which tends to look a lot like scratchs... you can try scrubing it off with scratch X which would take care of it whether it be a scratch or residue.... hahaha

other possibilities would be animals that rest on your hood at night such as cats or maybe birds.....

I tend to agree with above - hard to tell but from the photo it looks a little too deep to be from QDing... Just remember a Quik Detailer is used to remove light dust and finger prints, make sure you use a clean fresh micro fiber towel with detailer.

That said, Meguiars has some products that should help reduce and/or eliminate the scratch.

I would agree with the others. They look to deep to be from qd. They look like they are from a animal.

Cats! For the first year and a half I owned my present car I had no garage. The local cat loved to sit on my hood and scratch it. ... I hated that cat.
